Stunting wall ‘knocked down’

From the Niagara Falls Review:

If Nik Wallenda is allowed to walk over Niagara Falls, then daredevil Peter DeBernardi wants a chance to go over them — again.

For those who don’t remember his name, rewind to Sept. 27, 1989.

Peter DeBernardi, then 42, and Jeffrey Petkovich, 24, climbed into a home-made barrel at about 5:30 p.m. and plunged 175 feet over the mighty cataract. They suffered cuts and bruises, but survived the drop over the Horseshoe Falls and became the first to go over in a two-man barrel.

DeBernardi, 65, now lives in Hamilton. He is requesting approval from the Niagara Parks Commission to “go over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls in a craft known as Spirit of Niagara II.”

  1. Who are we to stand in the way of this great entertainer making money? Let these guys front emergency rescue costs, let them profit from their stunt and enjoy the millions of dollars spectators will bring to the area!
