Sleep Cheap to be held Nov. 13 to 17 — reservations begin Monday at 7 a.m.

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Circle Nov. 13 to 17 on the calendar if you want to Sleep Cheap this year.

The hugely popular “Sleep Cheap, Charities Reap” event gives Niagara residents an opportunity to book a hotel room at a drastically reduced rate which, in turn, raises funds for Niagara-based charities.

More than $845,000 has been raised to date.

“We’re within striking distance of hitting the $1 million mark,” said Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati, who created the event in 2004 as a way to celebrate the city’s centennial.

“So, we knew that this year we had to do something a little bit extra.”

For the first time in its eight-year history, the promotion will run over five nights, from Nov. 13 to 17. And, 27 hotels will offer a record 7,800 room nights.

The cost of the rooms remain the same as last year: $35 per night for a standard room, $45 for a fallsview room, $65 for a whirlpool room, and $85 for a room with access to a waterpark.

  1. Got in at Embassy Suites. Had a bad time getting in. I called the local number provided and after 20 minutes of redial I started ringing. I then traversed through the menu system to make a reservation, only to end up speaking to someone in reservations who told me that for Sleep Cheap I needed to contact the front desk, whom she could not connect me with. So, I hung up and tried again. A few minutes later I rang again. Instead of connecting with reservations, I hit 0 to get the front desk. BUT…. that connected me to someone in the US Hilton call centre reservations, whom had no idea what Sleep Cheap was, and would not give me the promo rate. I hung up and kept trying.

A few minutes later I was ringing again. This time I was immediately put on hold (no menu system). After 10 minutes on hold I was able to make my reservation. I guess the phone system got overwhelmed earlier
