From the Niagara Falls Review:
Fort Erie council unanimously authorized an amendment to its official plan Monday night, essentially endorsing the Canadian Motor Speedway proposal. A bylaw will go before town council next Monday night.
The issue will also need approval from Niagara Region, and must meet other requirements from the provincial government.
Close to 60 people took to the podium to voice their support or opposition to the proposal during a town council meeting last night.
Normally, council meetings are held inside town hall. But with a packed house expected for such a hot-button issue, the larger Leisureplex banquet hall was required.
Hundreds packed the venue, while 57 people registered to speak.
The meeting began at 6 p.m. and finished at 12:50 a.m.
