Couple weathers storm to trade Valentine’s Day vows in Falls

From the Buffalo News:

A Valentine’s Day wedding seemed like a romantic idea to Johnathan Semchyshyn. His bride-to-be thought that exchanging vows in the Honeymoon Capital of the World would make it even better.

The tan groom from Bermuda marveled at the snow falling Wednesday outside a stained glass church as he waited for his fiancee, Michelle Bates, a Western New York native who had picked the location.

Neither had counted on the heavy snowstorm that delayed the ceremony at least an hour.

“We wanted to take pictures by the falls,” Semchyshyn said. “Valentine’s Day was my idea. I’m a bit of a romantic.”

In the end, the weather did not seem to bother the couple or their guests, who came from as far away as Bermuda, Florida and central Canada.

“Regardless of the Nor’easter, it’s Valentine’s Day, and it’s hot and heavy,” Bates said just before the ceremony.

  • Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate a wedding. When we think back on it now, this is what my husband and I wish we would have done for our own wedding so many years ago. Niagara Falls is a wonderful place for weddings! Not only with the whole romantic aspect of it but there is also so much to do there for the wedding party and guests after the ceremony. :)
