Winter Storm

Wow! If you live in the northeast area of North America, you were probably hit by a lot of snow. I don’t know the exact number, but it looks like Niagara Falls got about a foot of snow. Today is a much clearer and brighter day. I’ll try to get out and take some pictures and/or a video.

  • The storm must have just skimmed us. The grand total for my town is 7 inches. Karen, what did you get over there?

  • We got about 12-18 inches depending where you are. We got about 15 where I am. The closer you are near Lake Ontario the more snow you got. Schools here were closed yesterday pretty much everywhere and today the city and few others were closed. I think the cold is more unbearable then the snow.

  • It looks so cold, wow! The webcam is all iced up and not working. I do fear however that Sheraton has removed the “live stream” option from the cameras all together however. And that really sucks, because its what I usually use. Makes for a great sunset.

  • I took some pictures and a video yesterday, so look for those next week as part of my daily features.

  • My husband and I were visiting Niagara Falls this past week 13th through the 15th and WOW there was alot of snow and ice. We were smart enough to leave home in the wee hours of the morning for the almost 6 hour drive to Niagara and so we had already been in town all day before the snowstorm hit. Started a bit slowly at first but wow, when it really started accumulating, it was amazing to watch how quickly things went from just a dusting to lots of snow through the night. I believe it was about a foot of snow that town received while we were there.

We braved the weather and took some amazing photos down at the Falls and around town and we had such a wonderful three days despite the weather. Crews were great at scraping and salting the roads on a constant basis.

We understand from talking to some attraction workers though that the town hotels really took a hit with the storm hitting and so many cancellations. If it were not for us leaving town here so early on Tuesday, we likely would have cancelled also as where we live got hit with it badly earlier on in the morning after we left.

Anyway, the snow didn’t bother us much, just drove around carefully and kept bundled up.

Is there someplace on Access Niagara that we can submit our own photos we have taken during trips to town? We visit town three or four times a years so I’d love to share some of the shots I have been lucky enough to capture. :)

  • Hello!

Down here in Pittsburgh we’ve had probably Between 7 to 10 inches - including a good .25 inch of ice that we timed wrong and can’t get rid of at the moment. Schools were closed for a couple days because of snow, ice and just plain cold!

We have a bushy tree out front of our place that is bent halfway over with the weight of ice and snow. Other than that it’s been really pretty! Many of the bare trees now look like crystal with a nice(non damaging) layer of ice.

The webcam is back up and the ice bridge looks amazing. Is it just me or does it look like it’s halfway up the American Falls? Maybe more! Looking forward to the visuals Graham!

  • BTW - The 7-10 has been total over a week, and the .25 inch of ice is on our walkway - not through the entire city…Pittsburgh did a good job keeping the hilly streets clear. My husband and I did not. He shoveled just before the freezing rain hit…and it just cemented to our walk now. We had run out of salt and are now trying to play catch up. Others who waited until that fist storm was over had some heavy snow to deal with…but it kept the ice from settling in too bad.
