From the Niagara Falls Review:
A casino will attract crime. It will promote the moral decay of a community desperate for jobs. It will turn casual players into addicts. A dozen years ago, Judith Mac-Carthy was certain all those things would happen if the province granted the city the right to open a glitzy new gaming centre in the heart of the tourist district. A decade after Casino Niagara opened its doors, MacCarthy says things might not be as bad as they seemed. “On the positive side, I know it has provided employment,” said MacCarthy, once the spokeswoman for the anti-casino group Try Another Way.

Its a great thing that NF Ontario went ahead with casinos when they did. Im not even saying for a moment that the draw of Seneca would have put any sort of dent into NF Ontarios economy, but it couldnt have helped. However, if CN or FV never were built who is to say Seneca would have been opened? My point is, NF Ontario has benefitted greatly from the casinos, and thats a hard point to argue. One of the articles made mention of it, but can you imagine the city without them, taking into account SARS, 9/11, possible passport law etc… Im not 100% pro gambling, but the point is its better to have it, then not to have it. Various areas surrounding Niagara seem to have it, and you dont want everyone leaving the area to gamble elsewhere. It also seems to make the city more of a “legit” destination for travelers. In the past, if you came to Niagara did the tourist attraction run through, there wasnt enough turnover to make you want to come back. I would still have of course, but I bet (no pun intended) Im in the minority. I really think the casinos might be one of the best things to ever happen to NF. I again, am not 100% pro gambling… but Ive also never bought into the people who lead the charge against it. Niagara Falls has been built up so much since the casinos, thats not a coincedence. I think its way more positive than negative. Im tryin to not get political, but its a Pandoras Box subject to mention. Just my 2 cents and my opinion, and you know what people say about those….
BTW…NF NY is the biggest waste of valuable property in the world. You could have 50 casinos there and it would still be a waste and a dissapointment. I hope one day that will turn around, although nothing will ever compare to NF Ontario, to me its the greatest place on earth. I cant believe the NY side is as bad as it is. Good site check it out…. http://www.jumpthefalls.com.
Sorry for my rant, I tend to get fired up over such topics.
