Wow! I can’t believe the number of comments that have been left on the posting about the fight at the Firefly. As of this posting there are 42! I appreciate your contributions, and also appreciate the kinds words with regards to the work I’ve put into the site. I figured now was as good a time as any to update you on some of the plans I have for the AccessNiagara.com site.
I had originally planned on AccessNiagara to be a destination site similar to InfoNiagara. Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to do that. So I think I’m going to turn it into a “wiki” of all things Niagara Falls. Similar to Wikipedia, visitors will be able to add content for attractions, hotels, restaurants and more, both past and preset. I had thought of getting a separate domain name, but rather than do that, I figured I’d keep everything consolidated on one site.
I also should have a forum ready to launch soon. Some of you have noticed that I already have something setup that you can get to from the blog. Registration info is shared with the blog, so once you are registered on one, you are registered on the other. There is still a forum system that I want to try, so don’t get too attached to the “test” one. One question… would you prefer one like I have now that is essentially part of the blog, or would you prefer a separate forum system?
Ultimately, I see the site as being driven by the visitors. You can contribute by posting comments on the blog (/blog), write up things on the wiki (/wiki or /? (any suggestions), talk with the community on the forum (/forum) and/or even post your own pictures (/gallery) (did you know you can do that?).
I plan on working on this over the winter and hopefully by the end of March I can have a complete site ready to go for the new tourist season. Please leave your suggestions and comments.

Would you still be posting updates Graham? Like new things going around town etc…?
You read my mind niagara! This bookmark is one of the first on my list and and I visit almost daily to get the “news”. My mom and I often discuss what’s happening on “the blog” - not “the Niagara blog” - just “THE blog”.
Believe it or not, but I’m not up on “blogging”. Some of the language went a little over my head…blog vs. forum and different kinds of forum systems. Whatever you decide to do, I’ll be watching and participating as much as I can.
I have enjoyed being a part of the 42-comment phenomenon, and look forward to “meeting” more knowledgeable Niagara enthusiasts like the ones I’ve encountered over the past few days. We took the negative of the story that started the chain and came away with some warm and positive memories of the Falls and turned toward a hopeful future.
Graham, I’m sure there are many of us who aren’t very vocal but are out here - and we’re very grateful for the service you provide. Thanks again!
I would really miss seeing the exclusive pictures from this site that Graham takes around town, its something you cant get anywhere else. The updates on developments and how projects are coming along, its great.
I like that we would be able to share some of our pictures, too. Graham can’t be everywhere now, can he? : )
I would definitely still be posting updates. My involvement wouldn’t change at all, but there are so many people out there who know so much that it would be great to have everyone contributing in some way.
You can post your own pictures now. Just register for the gallery at http://www.accessniagara.com/gallery/ and then once logged in, when you visit a gallery, you can add pictures to it. If you have a lot of pictures you’d like to put up, email me first and I might create a new category for you.
See - I told you I didn’t know anything about this stuff. I’ll check that out! Thanks!
hey!..me too!..this is the second thing i check everyday on my computer..the first being the falls cam….lol…my hubby..son and daughter all have the blog in their favorites and check every day..we’ll be LOST without it!..i am curious to know something from the regular bloggers..especially graham after his baskin robbins entry..where does everyone live?
The state furthest south in the United States
I always check daily sometimes more than once, I’m addicted :S lol
From the Niagara Region.
Thanks Graham for everything, I like where this site is going.
Graham, I really like the way you have this set up now, rather than having a separate forum. It kind of provides a starting point for discussions that can then take off in all directions(as per Firefly).
Us Niagara Falls folks appreciate the major effort that you put into this site. Thanks.
I’m from Pittsburgh. Close enough to visit often and far enough away to keep it a special place to “get away” to. I am the official ambassador at my office. People have borrowed my maps (not that I need one anymore) and brochures for their trips. I’m always giving advice on things to do and places stay and eat based on their interests.
Travel advice for anyone who drives up the same way I do - watch your speed on the I-90 segment between Erie and the Thruway…it’s only 55! Or so the cop told me…and my brother…and a friend….TWICE (same trip - once coming and once going. I wish I were kidding). They LOVE to catch you there!
Karen
That stretch in Erie seems like its been that way for several years, they still arent done with whatever project that is?
I don’t notice construction projects one way or the other too much…when you’re from Pennsylvania - it’s a way of life. It’s a permanent reduced speed much like the reduced speed around Pittsburgh. Maybe it’s a population/urban/safety thing…what I DO know is that they’re probably making a mint off of those areas.
i guess i’m the lucky one then..lol..i’m an hour down the hiway…we head down to the falls onna whim for the night many times…it is truly our home away from home…we have new years booked already..anybody interested in partying?…lol
Yep - I have it bookmarked and check everyday as well - great site!!! Keep up the great job Graham!
I’m down here in PA as well Karen!! An hour and a half or so from Pittsburgh. Hubby keeps saying he wants to move to Buffalo so we’d be close enough to come all the time. (Not sure why Buffalo instead of just moving to Niagara Falls?!?)
WOW, I didn’t know we could add photos, I’ll have to see what I have to contribute…
Do any of you know of a kennel or hotels that allow dogs? We haven’t been up since we got our golden a couple years ago, and talk about bringing them along some day, though I’m not sure we would though. Maybe some of you have experience with pets in the area.
My take on AccessNiagara… I’m glad it has not turned into an “InfoNiagara”. Don’t get me wrong, they have a lot of great info, but what makes AccessNiagara different to me, is the blog, photos and personal input from Graham and the ‘community’ that is forming here. I wanted to see what was new, improved, hear from other visitors, those that live in the region, etc., but this was the first site that I had come across that had that - it’s just more personal. The only thing I had wished the site had was a forum… and Graham is working on that!! Woo Hoo. (I’m still offering my help anyway I can Graham). Once again Graham - great job!!
BensonsMom, the Best Western Fallsview takes pets. They charge a $10.00 fee per night and the hotel is 100% smoke free.
Here’s a link: http://www.bestwesternfallsview.com/
I’m from Niagara Falls.
Graham - love the site and keep up the great work.
Suggestion: How about an additional category for the forum? Based on the 42-post (now 43!) phenomenon a lot of people like to share thoughts on favorite Niagara experiences of the past as well as what’s going on right now. I was delighted to see some people who remember all the same stuff that I do.
“Niagara Memories”…what do you think?
Great suggestion Karen. But maybe it should just be called “Dragon Fly” in honor of the first ‘forum’… speaking of which, I think I just posted in the wrong place HA HA
Niagara memories is now in the forum!!! Thanks Graham! I’ll be heading over there soon enough - but I have a big day ahead of me here at work.
I’ll try to check in tomorrow - I have tomorrow off to relax and pack for our annual Thanksgiving trip. After two days with the family, we always swing by the Niagara Festival of Lights on Saturday, and come home Sunday. I’ve only missed a couple FOL since its inception! Can’t wait to see the additional displays that I heard about here at the blog.
Hi All!! There’s not really a misc. place in the forums, so I came back here to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!! I wish you all a safe and wonderful holiday with your family and friends. Now - go eat some turkey!!!
Same to you BensonsMom….I’m heading out now. I’ll be at the falls in a couple days - I’ll report in when I get back!
Help me out people. I’ll be darned if I can figure out how to post on the forum. What am I missing?
