Danny Glover in Niagara Falls

As I just posted, Danny Glover was in Niagara Falls today for a union rally. The UNITE HERE workers at the Canadian Niagara Hotels properties have been fighting for a while now, and this was a rally in support of them. I made it down for a couple of minutes of the rally. Unfortunately the microphone system they were using wasn’t very loud, and people kept blowing whistles, honking their horns, and sometimes waving their clap boards, so I really didn’t hear a thing. I did get a couple of pictures of Mr. Glover. Unfortunately I didn’t have my good camera with me, so they aren’t as good as they could be.

Actor Danny Glover to Rally Niagara Falls Hotel Workers to demand Justice

I received this press release yesterday afternoon:

Well known actor and Special United Nations Ambassador, Danny Glover will join hotel workers in Niagara Falls on Saturday, September 16th to demand workplace justice.  The workers, all members of UNITE HERE local 2347, work in three hotels owned by the Canadian Niagara Hotels –Sheraton on the Falls, Brock Plaza and the Skyline Inn – and have been struggling to enforce their contract.

UNITE HERE Canadian Director Alex Dagg and Ontario Federation of Labour President Wayne Samuelson will join Glover at the rally.  Glover, a well-known labour activist, has been touring North America as part of the Hotel Workers Rising Campaign, which aims to empower thousands of hotel workers to improve their jobs and secure better lives for their families.

UNITE HERE members in the three hotels have filed numerous grievances and Unfair Labour practice charges at the Ontario Labour Relations Board against the Canadian Niagara Hotels.  The union represents over 50,000 workers across Canada in the hotel, service, and manufacturing industries.
