Niagara Falls prints going to NU

    From the Buffalo News:

“The Charles Rand Penney Collection of Niagara Falls Prints” – a renowned 754-piece collection covering prints of the falls from as early as the 1680s to as recently as 2000 – will soon be at home in the Castellani Art Museum on the Niagara University campus.

In a pending agreement between the Lockport collector and the Castellani, Penney will donate two-thirds of the collection to the museum, with the remainder to be acquired through purchase and a grant from a private donor. The collection is valued at approximately $300,000.

“From the very beginning of our discussions, we knew that acquiring these magnificent prints was important,” said museum director Laurene Buckley.

The collection is considered the largest and most extensive of its kind in the world. It “contains the best prints ever done of the falls, and almost all of them are historic,” Buckley said.
