Konica Minolta Tower history

The Konica Minolta Tower has been around for over 40 years. After about a year of construction, it opened in 1962. It was originally called the Seagram Tower, and it’s shape was supposed to remind you of a Seagram’s whiskey bottle. I’ve looked around for a picture of a bottle that the tower was modelled after, but I haven’t been able to find anything. My father was the one who originally told me this. He remembers when it was built and what the bottles looked like.

Over the years it has had many owners and names:

    • Seagram Tower
    • Heritage Tower
    • Royal Inn Tower
    • Royal Centre Tower
    • Panasonic Tower
    • Minolta Tower
    • Konica Minolta Tower

At one point, the owners owed so much in back taxes to the city that the City of Niagara Falls threatened to take over the tower.

It used to be one of the only things on the Niagara Falls skyline. Now it is surrounded by highrise hotels that offer equally impressive views.
