DongBu Tour Construction Progress

I’m still not clear on who owns this property and what exactly it’s going to be, but the property beside the Clarion President Hotel & Suites By The Falls and across from the Doubletree Resort Lodge & Spa Fallsview is making nice progress. The land has been cleared and dug up to a degree (there is no basement) and a lot of concrete has been poured.

I previously posted about the city meeting and when construction started.

Free parking

During the off-season months, most places have their parking lots open with no one monitoring them, so parking is free.

You certainly won’t see free parking anywhere in the summer!

Absolutely amazing weather!

I know a lot of people who don’t live in Canada think we have snow all year round and that we live in igloos. Well, that has never been true, and it is even more true this year. We’ve had a very mild winter so far, and today it is supposed to get to around 10° C (50° F)!

Quality Inn Clifton Hill sign removal

The Quality Inn Clifton Hill driveway and front desk area (including Golden Griddle) will be removed for the arrival of the Ferris wheel. The workers were out today removing the sign. This is right on Clifton Hill between the Boston Pizza entrance and the new retail building that is currently under construction.

This was across the street from the Doubletree Resort Lodge & Spa Fallsview:

Apparently everyone is smart enough not to put money in the garbage pail :-) I looked and there was nothing in it.

Kandu dies

From Niagara This Week:

Kandu, a killer whale who entertained customers at Marineland for decades, has died, Niagara This Week has learned.

Marineland marketing manager Ann Marie Rondelli confirmed when contacted by This Week that the orca whose name was synonomous with the entertainment park died Dec. 21. The park is awaiting the results of a necropsy, an autopsy for animals, to determine the cause of death.

Killer whales in the wild are believed to have a life span of about 50 years. Rondelli said staff at the popular marine park believe Kandu was in his late thirties.

Fun House leaflet

The Fun House has been on Clifton Hill for many years. For the 2005 season, the operators (Niagara Clifton Group) revamped all of their pamphlets. Among these was Fun House. It used to be a pamphlet rather than a leaflet, with colours that weren’t too appealing. The new leaflet is much more eye-catching.

I’ve scanned their promotional leaflet and included the text below:

Front of leaflet:

Clifton Hill
Fun by the Falls
The Fun House
Experience old fashioned family fun!

Back of leaflet:

Clifton Hill
Fun by the Falls
Climb, crawl, roll, twirl and laugh your way through Niagara’s one and only Fun House. A great place for the whole family to have fun.

Waterpark making seven-storey splash

The Saturday issue of the Niagara Falls Review had a nice article about the new waterpark that is being built by Canadian Niagara Hotels. They had originally announced that it was going to be open in December, but progress has been slow. The article explains that they are hoping to open in March and that admission will be $20 to $40.

The article isn’t online, but here is a copy of the article:
