Niagara Falls artist grabbing local, national buzz

From WGRZ Channel 2 in Buffalo:

Taramarie Mitravich’s first artistic memories come from when she was in first grade.

Whether it was one of her favorite cartoons, a flower she saw outside, or sketching out pages of Peter Rabbit. The most important thing for her, she said—even at a young age—was to mimic…

Perhaps one of the most vivid examples she can point to is found in the Art Alley of downtown Niagara Falls; at 25, Mitravich was recruited as one of 16 artists to put up her own unique mural.

As the one-year anniversary of the Art Alley approaches, Mitravich is also preparing to have her work featured at Buffalo Comicon from September 30th-October 1st.

From WGRZ Channel 2 in Buffalo:

    And so it continues.

After five weeks of recess, Tuesday’s city council meeting in Niagara Falls ended without a vote on the $25 million hotel proposal from developer Mark Hamister, once again stalling a project that could bring tens of millions of dollars to this struggling city.

“I am just baffled,” Councilwoman Kristen Grandinetti said. “We had 30 days. I assumed that after we came off a break, we’d be voting, I’ve literally spent the last 5 weeks of my life focused on this.”

From WGRZ Channel 2 in Buffalo (including video):

Five years ago, 2 On Your Side’s Scott Brown produced an Emmy-award winning special that comparied Niagara Falls, New York with Niagara Falls, Canada.

At that time, we reported how on our side of the Falls, decades of bad decisions, inaction by out of town developers, and a lack of focus on tourism had left Niagara Falls, New York destitute and with few tourist attractions.

We decided to go back to the Falls to see what’s changed, and what has not over these last five years.

In the first of two reports, Scott looks at what changes for the better have happened over these last five years.

From WGRZ Channel 2 in Buffalo:

When you think of tourist attractions in Niagara County, Niagara Falls comes to mind. But some county leaders are saying not enough is being done to promote the area’s other attractions.

Tuesday night, Niagara County legislators will decide whether to approve a one year contract extension for the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation, or NTCC, instead of a 15 year contract as discussed earlier this year.

“I think that the NTCC can do a better job. I mean, Lockport has a lot of great attractions,” says Niagara County legislator Rick Updegrove.

Earlier this week a viewer sent us a photo of two cats on a rock on Goat Island in Niagara Falls – just a couple of the many cats that live there.

The viewer was concerned about their health and well being, living dangerously close to the water, and cold winter weather upon us. We went looking for answers and found she’s not the only one who’s concerned.

As I tweeted on Saturday, I came down on Saturday with my family to try and see some of the Red Bull Crashed Ice competition, but there were no events during the day. I also tried to watch it on RedBull.TV but at the time I checked they still weren’t showing anything.

I know there are loads of articles about the event, but here are some that I found that I thought were worth sharing:
