    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Police continue to investigate a fire they say was deliberately set Tuesday at a Lundy’s Lane motel in Niagara Falls.

Niagara Regional Police said they responded to a working fire at the Value Inn at approximately 5:30 p.m.

They said the fire was quickly extinguished and damage was contained to one room. The motel was vacant and not in operation at the time of the fire.

    Small motels enjoying tourism boom

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

It’s not just the traditional tourism powerhouses in Niagara Falls that are experiencing a banner summer season.

The smaller mom and pop motels along Lundy’s Lane are also reaping the benefits of a strong U.S. dollar and a weaker Canadian loonie.

“This year we’re seeing at least a 15 to 20 per cent increase in business,” said Max Patel, general manager of the Westlodge Inn & Suites.

“I think it’s the dollar. Canadians are staying on this side because of the price.”

Niagara Falls man arrested for possessing explosive chemicals

I drive past this hotel every morning and every afternoon as I go to/from work! Some of the hotels on those back streets are kind of “sketchy”.

    From Niagara This Week:

Police have arrested a 43-year-old Niagara Falls man after unknown chemicals were discovered in a Niagara Falls motel room Monday evening.

The discovery led to the evacuation of rooms in the motel as well as a nearby house, and the closure of several streets near CJS Inn at 5334 Kitchener Street.

Within a few hours, all but Slater Avenue were open to through traffic, and by Tuesday evening all streets were re-opened.

Falls motels ‘getting killed,’ seek help from council

    From the St Catharines Standard:

A group of Niagara Falls motel owners will be fighting for their survival at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

The Niagara Innkeepers Association, representing 40 motels and about 1,900 rooms, is requesting more time to pay its February tax bill in instalments to weather the industry’s slowest time of year.

Without this concession, group president Devanshu Narang is worried several ‘mom and pop’ motels – properties with 100 rooms or fewer – will not last another year.

Changes at Lodge Inn & Suites yet again

I mentioned last week that there were some changes happening at Lodge Inn & Suites again. Well, it looks like they have changed their name again. The main part of the building will be part of Baymont Inn & Suites. The smaller motel part looks like it will stay as Lodge Inn & Suites.
