The unofficial start of Summer 2017

As you are probably aware, the two May holiday weekends (Victoria Day weekend in Canada, Memorial Day weekend in the US) marks the unofficial start of the summer tourists season here in Niagara Falls. I haven’t heard or read anything specific about what sort of business levels people are expecting this year, but I would definitely assume that people will continue to flock to Niagara Falls.

  • The zipline will have a full summer in operation
  • The Big Top attraction on Clifton Hill will open
  • The new developments by Kelsey’s will open (Niagara Speedway, Funnel Cakes, etc)
  • The Canadian dollar is weaker, so more Americans should be coming

Here’s hoping it is a great year for everyone!

Niagara Speedway go-kart track spiral progress

I think it is safe to say that one of the most anticipated attractions in Niagara Falls for quite some time is the Niagara Speedway that will be opening at the corner of Clifton Hill and Victoria Avenue (behind Kelsey’s). The track is supposed to open this year, but no firm date has been announced.

It has been neat to see the progress as the old Comfort Inn was torn down, the lot was prepared, buildings started to pop-up, and now the spiral of the go-kart is up. It looks very cool!

Latest photos of Clifton Hill redevelopment

The Niagara Falls Review had a decent article about the changes happening on the HOCO Entertainment & Resorts property on Clifton Hill.

At the request of @chuckfromcanada on Twitter, I’ve taken some pictures so you can see what’s been going on. You can click on each photo to get more details about it.

Overall the site is looking good.

  • It is much cleaner than it was. The new parking lot is huge and there is no gravel parking now. It is all paved.
  • Kelsey’s is open and is now called Kelsey’s Roadhouse. I’ve been inside and it is gorgeous! The patio is still being worked on.
  • Ripley’s (I didn’t take any pictures) is open and supposedly is much bigger than it was.

It looks like everyone is ready for a busy summer!

Liquor License Application at Kelsey’s on Clifton Hill

With all of the changes happening at the Kelsey’s on Clifton Hill, it is no surprise to see that the resetaurant is expanding (it says “additional facilities”) and therefore the liquoru license needs to be amended.

Clifton Hill development will have ‘big impact’

From the Niagara Falls Review:

A massive redevelopment project on Clifton Hill that includes what’s described as “go-carts on steroids” is well underway.

“Right now we’re working on the Ripley’s and Kelsey’s building, which is right on the frontage of Clifton Hill, so that’s about 25,000 square feet,” said Harry Oakes, president of HOCO Limited.

HOCO owns and operates attractions, restaurants and shops on the south side of the street.

The building is being completely stripped down, and the attraction and restaurant will be “totally updated,” he said.

Oakes said Ripley’s, which is owned by the Jim Pattison Group and is a tenant of HOCO’s, is updating to an interactive walk-through attraction.
