    Niagara still going for GO

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Niagara Region Chairman Alan Caslin is continuing to push for regular Toronto to Niagara Falls GO train service to be up and running in time for the 2021 Canada Summer Games.

However, Metrolinx — the arm’s-length provincial agency that operates GO Transit — isn’t committing to any changes to its originally proposed timetable.

“We are aware of the request to launch service by 2021 instead of 2023 as promised, but it’s too early to say at this point,” said GO spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins, adding Metrolinx is going to provide a full update on GO expansion in the fall.

    Marineland bows out of CAZA

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Marineland is voluntarily withdrawing its membership with the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) a month before its re-accreditation process.

A statement released this week by the Niagara Falls park says “extensive work” to be done this summer in a previously undeveloped area will “materially impact” its re-accreditation.

The process “will not accomplish the mutual goals of Marineland and CAZA at this time period.”

When asked for clarification, CAZA spokeswoman Ashley McArthur Street suggested all follow-up questions be deferred to Marineland, and provided a link to a current list of accredited facilities.

Marineland’s statement stressed the park “remains firmly committed to CAZA,” and is withdrawing its membership “to permit the expansion work to be completed and new operations harmonized with CAZA.”

Details of the expansion were not provided.

    Antica Pizzeria & Ristorante expanding?

As a follow-up to my “Center Gift Shop” torn down for a parking lot posting last week, regular visitor Drafty found a document on the city web site (or here if the city website link changes) that indicates that Antica Pizzeria & Ristorante will be expanding into the space where Center Gift Shop was. A public meeting was held back at the beginning of November.

I guess until they are ready to expand, it’ll be used as a parking lot.

Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls moves forward on $71M expansion

    From the Niagara Gazette:

It was a year of success for Macerich Real Estate Trust and its Town of Niagara-based Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, even if the dog days of summer seemed to drag on and on.

The year started and ended in victory for the mall, receiving approval on its request for tax relief in February and its site plan in October. Both served significant roles in pushing the project forward, even when there was little progress completing the necessary state environmental quality review.

In the end, though, everything turned up roses for the shopping hub.

    From the Buffalo News:

Expansion of the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls received environmental approval Tuesday as the Town Board approved a number of resolutions that clear the way for construction to begin.

The board, which has been reviewing the site plan and how the expansion will impact traffic, drainage, noise and air quality as well as aesthetics, voted unanimously to allow the work to start. As lead agent in the state environmental quality review process, the board had to substantiate a negative finding on the various impacts.

    From the Tonawanda News:

The Factory Outlets of Niagara Falls mall may be planning an expansion.

Town of Niagara board members discussed the mall’s expansion during a budget meeting on Wednesday night but said that they had been offered no specifics by Macerich Partnership L.P., the company that owns the mall.

Charles Teixeira, a town board member, said that the town has not received any documents from the company outlining their plans for the expansion.

“There’s nothing technically of an expansion, per se, in writing,” Teixeira said. “It’s all hearsay.”
