The Office comes to Niagara Falls

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

It was hardly another day at “The Office.”

The beloved NBC sitcom made a misty appearance in Niagara Falls, New York on Thursday, filming scenes for the upcoming wedding between characters Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski).

Cast and crew rode the Maid of the Mist twice in the morning and once in the afternoon, surprising tourists who boarded the boat from the U.S. dock.

A Niagara Falls visit by the show had been rumoured for weeks, though no one knew where – or when – they’d arrive. But online rumblings told fans to keep an eye out Thursday, as production boarded a plane from Chicago to Buffalo that morning.

Maid of the Mist spokesman Tim Ruddy said it was a juggling act accommodating the show and the crowds, but it went “very smooth.”

“Of all the film crews and production crews we’ve had over the years, this was by far the most professional and easy to work with,” he said. “They were so appreciative of what Niagara Falls is doing for them.”

Someone with a WordPress blog has posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:

So what’s a better way to cheer myself up and get out of the country? Another trip. Money is tight and so is time. I start school again in less then 3 weeks. When I was deciding where to go Toronto was currently on a civic strike with no trash pick up, so that eliminated Toronto. A trip home to Montreal, or Buffalo, Chicago, Hong Kong and Thailand all prove to be too expensive. So I eventually decide on Niagara Falls. Close by, cheap, and able to leave the country.

“You’ve been all the way to Cuba, but you’ve never been to the falls?” My friend’s boyfriend laughed, last night at our friends’ Sarah and Steve’s buck and doe. I’ve been to the falls before. Several times actually. However the last time I was standing in the middle of some park freezing to death listening to Jeff Healy (sp) worrying if what they said will happen at Y2K will actually happen. It didn’t. So almost 10 years has passed since I’ve been.

Someone posted a question on the MyCoupons forum asking about ideas for her trip to Buffalo and Niagara Falls:

Hi. We’re going to Buffalo/Niagara this weekend. We are staying in Buffalo, going to go up to Niagara Falls on Sat.

Anyone got any ideas? Me, 28; DH 30; DD 9…

We go up about 1 time a year…We let her have the Clifton Hill experience last yr…So not really spending $$ there…So looking for some cheap or free ideas in the area.

She then update the post to say that they were going to go to Toronto instead. Perhaps you can still convince her to return to the Falls…

    Falls Wintergarden Demolition Begins

From WGRZ (channel 2 in Buffalo):

It was once seen as a crown jewel in the urban renewal effort undertaken in Niagara Falls, New York in the mid 1970’s.

But unlike the fanfare which marked its opening 32 years ago, there were no crowds gathered to watch as demolition crews began razing the Wintergarden, …the downtown indoor arboretum once featured in Life Magazine.

‘Flexible’ U.S. guards ease border flow

    From the Toronto Star:

As cars and trucks breezed across the Peace Bridge to Buffalo this morning, it was shaping up to be a typical Monday at the U.S.-Canadian border despite new documentation requirements coming into effect today.

Under the new requirements, Canadians will still be allowed across the U.S. border without a passport or enhanced driver’s licence during this summer travel season.

They’ll just be scolded a little.
