Here are a few pictures of the construction at Table Rock Place:

Correction on new High Times location

I don’t mean to beat this to death, but I had something wrong before, so I wanted to correct it. I posted before about High Times closing and moving. It appeared that they were moving into the cigar shop near Clifton Hill. That was wrong. They moved into a shop right beside the Golden Griddle.

High Times closed/moved

I know how much you are all interested in this topic :-) so here is the last update (at least I hope it’s the last).

The original store is closed…

…and has moved…

…down the street…

(We had figured as much, but in the beginning, the original store didn’t say that they were moving).

Sugar Mountain Candy Store

In a previous post, Sue asked about the building on Victoria Ave right at the top of Clifton Hill. The building was recently painted and the previous tenants are gone. Something is going on.

I stopped by today, and the small sign on the door says that Sugar Mountain Candy Store is opening and they are looking to hire people. I’ve never heard of the place before, but apparently they are popular in the cities the are located.

Build-A-Bear Workshop looking better

After rushing to get the Build-A-Bear Workshop open by the end of March, they are finally finishing up the outside of the building.

Another Build-A-Bear Workshop update

As I mentioned, the new Build-A-Bear Workshop on Victoria Avenue is open, but there is still lots of work to be done on the exterior.

Build-a-Bear Workshop now open

The Build-A-Bear Workshop was supposed to open Friday, March 28. I don’t know if it did or not, but it was definitely open on Saturday, March 29. I was by there when we were visiting the area for Earth Hour, and I guess it fit right in. There was no sign on the outside at all that would light up. There were still exposed wires where the sign would be. You could see insulation in areas, and wood in other areas. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done on the outside.

The inside however looked totally complete and was very nice. For some reason I thought it was going to have two separate floors, but it is just a single floor with ceilings that are two-storeys tall. As I walked in, there was the typical cheerful host welcoming me and asking if I had any questions. She said they had a special Niagara Falls t-shirt for only $2 (I don’t know if that was a special grand opening price or a regular price). The t-shirt decal had a bear in a barrel going over Niagara Falls. It was cute.

Construction and development update

Last year at this time, I was struggling to post even one thing a day. This year, there just seems to be more going on. Even if some of them are little, it’s good to see things happening/changing.

There is still work being done around the new Cantina Charlies. The building is painted blue and they will be switching the signs soon.

The walkway over the Niagara Parkway at the renovated Table Rock Place is coming along.

The Build-A-Bear Workshop is supposed to be opening soon, but it still looks like there is a lot of work to do.

Here is the other “High Times” on Victoria Avenue

I’ve lost count of what floor they are on, but work continues on the Hilton. After the accident yesterday, things seem a little quieter around the site, but there are still workers there.

We’ve known for a couple of weeks now that Niagara Freefall is open

In case anyone is interested, the shark attack has been contained :-)

Actually, the original shark is still on the loose (why didn’t they take this one away?!)

High Times is closing

Speaking of Canada’s interesting cannabis laws (and Niagara Falls being close to the border), High Times is closing. It has been open for just under a year, so I assume that the lease is up, and either the landlord wouldn’t renew it with them, or the store declined to renew.

Expect to see bears on Clifton Hill

From the Niagara Falls Review:

A new attraction is coming to Niagara Falls that children from the local area and beyond will be beary excited about. Build-a-Bear Workshop, the St. Louis-based company that gives little ones - and not-so-little-ones - the chance to pick and create the fuzzy friend of the dreams, is set to open at Victoria Avenue and Clifton Hill March 28.

“We’re beary thrilled,” Paul Bundonis, Build-a-Bear’s chief workshop bear, said from his office in Missouri, using Build-a-Bear speak that includes “beary,” “paws-itively,” cele-bear-ation and “op-bear-tunities.”

The new Niagara Falls store will be one of 20 the company plans to open in 2008 - and one of two opening in Canada this month.
