Illumination board to seek funding for lighting upgrade

From Niagara This Week:

The Niagara Falls Illumination Board is looking to the community for help to revitalize lighting of the Horseshoe and American falls.

The last update to the lighting system came 20 years ago when the current Xenon lighting system was installed.

Following a thorough Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) process in 2014 and 2015, a proponent was selected and has showcased a new LED lighting technology can provide to improve the overall illumination of the falls. Proposed upgrades include more than twice the current lighting levels being achieved, with a broader colour spectrum and greater energy efficiency with less maintenance being required. The new lighting, which would cost $3.5 million, will also save on energy costs to the tune of 48 per cent.
