From WKBW Channel 7 in Buffalo:
Daredevil Nik Wallenda is asking the public to help him pay for expenses connected to his historic high wire walk above Niagara Falls later this month.
Wallenda posted a YouTube video on indiegogo.com, a money-raising site, with a goal of $50,000.
“One thing I’ve learned about walking a natural wonder like Niagara Falls is that it’s extremely costly,” Wallenda said in the video.
“There have been so many unforeseen costs that have come up lately. And I need your help to raise the money to make this thing happen,” he said.

between this and tickets and tethers, the only phrase that comes to mind is “Are you kidding me?” Reinforcing the decision i made NOT
to come to see this.
I will not give any donation to this scam artist and fake. Maybe Nik should get ABC and ctv to pay for this.
I don’t understand anyone’s hatred towards Nik here. Is it because he’s American? You DO realize he is losing money on this whole deal. Where’s this “scam artist” idea coming from? He’s not profiting from the people watching. In fact he was insistent that it be free from both sides. He doesn’t have as much money rolling in from sponsors (possibly due to the risk factor and his resistance on the safety harness), and isn’t making anything from ABC in general. He isn’t making anything from the USA or Canada in general, and if you read the Buffalo News article, had to fork over $1.2 million of his OWN money just to make this happen.
What ticket prices are you talking about Karen?? Canada’s free, the USA is free. USA people are trying to scalp them on e*Bay. Nik is mad that he’s tethered to a cord and has an emergency release if he gets stuck. Why is he “so much better” than Jay Cochrane? Because Jay is Canadian? Give Nik some credit. Seriously.
I’m not hating on walenda. I’m hating on the b.s. this whole thing has caused. And I didn’t say anything about prices for the record. I’m sorry Cocherane didn’t have the people to get this done that Wallenda obviously does. I’m sorry that Wallenda’s people didn’t have the ability to get this paid for for him.
I was as excited as anyone to hear about this reenactment of the history of the falls that i had never experienced. I made raservations to come, but as the details started coming out, I was a bit turned off to the whole thing and cancelled.
Understand that my Niagara was a place where you once could park for free along the road in Victoria Park. My Niagara once had Maple Leaf Village instead of casinios. You could stay at a hotel for a reasonable price without paying for parking in the hotel’s own parking lot. The Casinos have brought on a money grab that has only spread and escalated over the years. i do love casinos. I just wish they had left My Niagara alone.
That being said, i would like to think my Niagara would have made this endeavor by Wallenda or anyone else a bit of a simpler propsition. The complications are just a symptom of the larger issues that this new Niagara comes with. I come to the falls anyway – but costs are high and finding the charms i remember of my niagara is proving difficult. My niagara was classier for lack of a better word. To be fair – a lot of things were simpler and classier.
I’ve taken thousands of pictures of Niagara in an effort to capture its beauty. Maybe I can ask for donations for the camera equipment and film I’ve spent too much money on over the years in my persuit. Wallenda is capturing his own thrill and persuing his own glory. So the networks and sponsors aren’t paying for it. They are gambling that they will get ratings out of this. He is gambling that this stunt will lead to more profitable stunts in the future. It’s not hateful talk. It is what it is.
All that being said. I will be watching the broadcast on the 15th.

I hope Nik falls cause he shouldn’t even be allowed to cross when Jay has asked way before Nik.

I don’t think anyone owes this guy a CENT. I have no doubt he will be showered with interviews, sponsorships, book sales and everything. No one asked him to pull the stunt. He’s just taking advantage of the situation.
