Great Wolf Lodge Niagara Falls Creates Life-Size Gingerbread House for Family Dining

Life-size gingerbread house will open for dining on Nov. 24 to raise money for the Child Advocacy Centre Niagara

Niagara Falls, ON (Oct. 13, 2011) – For many families building a gingerbread house is a holiday tradition. The Great Wolf Lodge Niagara Falls turns that holiday tradition into a larger-than-life adventure.

Instead of a little ginger house with frosting, gumdrops and candy canes used as a dinner room centerpiece – The Great Wolf Lodge builds a gingerbread house large enough for a one-of-a-kind holiday dining experience for Lodge visitors and local families. It stands nearly two stories tall and seats up to six for a meal full of memories.

Annually the award-winning resort and one of Canada’s largest indoor waterparks has constructed this gingerbread house to make family memories and raise thousands of dollars for charity – this year’s edition is set to begin taking reservations on November 24, up to nine seatings each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It takes more than 300 hours, hundreds of pounds of gingerbread, chocolate, cookies, pretzels and candy to build. General Manager of The Lodge, Keith Simmonds, said that during construction the entire lodge is filled with the sweet aroma of Gingerbread and chocolate.

Once construction is complete families will be able to walk through the front door of this real-life gingerbread house and sit down for a holiday meal. Dining reservations are available to the public, as well as to Great Wolf Lodge guests.

This year, the Lodge is partnering with Child Advocacy Centre Niagara, a group that helps abused children in Niagara’s twelve municipalities. The $20 reservation fee (meals are additional) will go to the agency.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that the Great Wolf Lodge has partnered with a local agency.

The gigantic gingerbread house will be part of a whole Winter Wonderland experience at the Lodge to help families soak in the holiday spirit and cherish the gift of time spent together.

Winter Wonderland activities including:

  • Snowflakes falling in the Grant Living Room
  • Picturesque horse-drawn sleigh rides straight out of a holiday carol
  • Visits by Santa, Mrs. Claus and all of their cheery elves
  • “Taffy on Snow” treats – hot maple syrup drizzled on a bed of snow and rolled into a popsicle stick
  • Holiday magic performed right before your eyes-during the Forest Magic shows
  • And fun and games the whole family will enjoy

For gingerbread house dining reservations, call (905) 354-4888 ext. 5718, or visit the restaurant’s host stand. Select holiday dining times are available. Those with reservations can be seated at the gingerbread house through Jan. 9 (does not include New Years Eve).
