People-mover agreement stalled

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Details of the $50-million people-mover project will not be released until next week.

Niagara Falls council was expected to discuss the final direction of the deal with the Niagara Parks Commission at a meeting Thursday at city hall.

The meeting was cancelled following a lengthy discussion on Wednesday between a provincial mediator and lawyers representing the city and Niagara Parks.

“We just ran out of time and we didn’t have a deal yet to present to the councillors,” Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said Thursday.

Diodati said councillors were given a copy of the agreement Monday during an in-camera session of the regular council meeting.

Questions were raised about the agreement, so lawyers from both sides and the mediator returned to the table on Wednesday to further discuss the business terms of the agreement.

“Now, what was discussed (Wednesday) will get added in and that agreement we will present to council next week,” Diodati said.

The agreement is now scheduled to be presented to councillors on Thursday at city hall.
