WWE ride and store closing March 31, 2011

As you may have seen, Drafty left a comment letting us know that the WWE store (including the ride) will be closing on March 31, 2011. I was by the store today so I stopped in. The store is almost empty, with only a few racks left with things on them. What is left is on sale. There are small signs that say that the store will be closing on March 31, 2011. There was only 1 person working, and he didn’t seem terribly interested that I was there, so I didn’t bother asking him any questions.

It actually surprised me when the store opened in the first place. The WWE (formerly WWF) had already passed its peak in popularity before the store opened. The only time I ever saw it busy was when they had a wrestler there for an appearance. And of course we all know how the ride was often not open. I must admit, I never went on it, so I don’t know what it was like.

Does anyone out there know what happened? A few questions…

  • Why is the store closing?
  • Did CNH lose the rights, or give them up?
  • Will the ride re-open as something else, or are they giving up on it entirely?
  • Any idea what is going in that space?

If you don’t want to leave a comment, feel free to email me directly.

  1. I’m not all too heartbroken about this, WWE was a weird IP to leverage in Niagara. It speaks more to the “Clifton Hill as a random carnival of mismatched crap” reputation than anything, regardless of the qualities of the ride itself.

  2. This wasn’t the first time that the WWE first open a retail store. In New York Times Square, they had WWE The World which was a resturant with a retail store about 10 years ago. It only lasted a few years.

I have visted the WWE store a few times but I have always been disapointed in it. The prices are outragious. They never had up-to-date merchandise. IMO there was never the interest that I guess CNH had hope./

  3. I’m as surprised as you are but still it was a shut taqiular store the 3 times I went there they had no tee shirt only title belts and if they did. t was shit tee shirts like carlito or etc I’m glad there angling WWE shop .com more cause the prices are about the same as a live event

  4. this summer i was going to go to niagra falls but noooooooo you people had to close it re-open it so people can go as soon as my 6 year old brother heard it was closing he cryed for 3 hours strate please re-open it by this summer thanks.

  5. hi guys ! WWE Niagara Falls store is still there , not under the wwe banner but they have all the new merchandise like new t-shirts and unique figurines etc . prices are not bad at all ,considering paying freight , duties and handling charges if you order from WWE or any company from America . I was there in Niagara Falls WWE store and they still have the Wrestlers Handprints outside and a huge selection of WWE merchandise . Guys ! really go check them out .

    1. It is not a WWE store. It has become a generic souvenir shop that carries a lot of wrestling stuff because they know it confuses the casual observer who walks by or ventures in. If it was a WWE store it would only carry WWE merchandise, but that’s not the case.
