From the Buffalo News:

The Aquarium of Niagara is wading toward a major expansion.

Aquarium officials are in the early planning stages of an addition and remodeling project that could double the size of the attraction just outside Niagara Falls State Park.

They plan to submit an application next month for a $5 million state grant for the project and will reach out to regional organizations for support during the coming weeks.

“This is the first step for our future and for the City of Niagara Falls,” said Gay Molnar, director of development. “For us to go for this grant means something very dear to this establishment.”

The Aquarium of Niagara — home to sea lions, penguins and other aquatic creatures — will turn 45 next year.
