More Sleep Cheap 2009 information

The City of Niagara Falls also had a media release about the Niagara Falls 2009 Sleep Cheap, Charities Reap event (the release was titled 5th Annual Sleep Cheap Reservation Date Announced):

The waiting is over! Reservations for the 5th Annual Sleep Cheap Charities Reap event can be made starting Friday October 23, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. Sleep Cheap Charities Reap will take place over four nights from Monday, November 9 to Thursday, November 12, 2009. Room rates for this year are: $35 per night for a standard room, $45 for a Fallsview room, $65 for a whirlpool room, and $85 for a room with access to a waterpark.

Twenty-eight of Niagara’s finest hotels will offer their rooms to Niagara Region residents only to benefit local charities. New to Sleep Cheap this year are the Doubletree Fallsview Resort & Spa by Hilton and the Niagara Falls Baymont Inn & Suites.

A few of my own thoughts/observations/questions:

  • It’s good to see some new hotels participating
  • Why is the Great Wolf Lodge participating? I’m sure they have their reasons, but ultimately it looks bad since they participated before
  • I like the idea of some attractions participating. I wonder if in the future, attractions on Clifton Hill will be included
  • I don’t think my family will be taking advantage of this at all this year
  • I never did post my experience last year at the Americana. I will do so soon
  • This is a fantastic promotion, and raises a lot of money for charity. Good job Niagara Falls!

  1. Fallsview Casino Hotel is also not participating this year, although they have made a $4500 contribution.

As mentioned on another posting, several hotels were only taking on-line reservationas this year, and were allowing booking much earlier than 8am. Seems a little unfair to those that don’t have easy access to the internet and to those that actually waitied till 8am.

  2. I think they make it as fair as they possibly can. Different homes get their newspaper at different times of the day, and some folks are in transit or already at work for the 8am reservation time so it could be considered unfair to them I suppose.

I phoned the on-line hotels and they were also taking phone reservations but it was a much slower process. I did get an on-line Fallsview waterpark reservation at 7:45am so we’re happy at our house anyway.

  3. How is that not fair? Get internet access like the rest of the modernized world. Its not the hotels fault you don’t have access to the internet.

  4. Well Joe, since we are discussing this on the internet, I would think it was quite obvious that I DO have access. I was actually referring to the fact that many people would be at work at that time without computer access, as well as the timing issue. All advertising says that reservations will start at 8am, but by that time, many rooms were already gone.
I got the room I wanted at the Sterling, so it doesn’t matter to me, I was just making an observation.
