Just Another Travel Blog: Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Someone with a Blogger blog posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:

I had been to Niagara Falls over 20 years ago as a child with my parents. At the time, they seemed huge. Now, as an adult, they are beautiful and romantic, but not inspiring.

It’s sad to see what much of the Canadian side has become. Clifton Hill and the surrounding area is block after block of bad fast food and souvenir shops. The quaint charm of most Canadian cities is given way to the worst forms of American Yankee commercialism. Forget romance. It’s sad really.

  1. the last time I was at Niagara Falls was more than 15 years ago, on the Canadian side, was barely 5 years old.

I heard that they built a casino right next to where the falls are, and that the views are gorgeous, will check it out next spring ! Am only 20, so that means I can go inside this casino and gamble away 🙂

  2. wow…that sux…it’s a shame to be that negative….the falls holds a beauty of it’s own for everybody…tacky gifts shops or not…the *tackiness* and commercialism only adds to the excitement..just like a little vegas..without the flight cost..and if you can’t find romance at the the falls…then you REALLY need to rethink your romance…honeymooned there 28 years ago…stayed twice a year almost every year since…re-married in the big mass wedding of 2000 at oakes gardens…daughter was married there…our 4 year old granddaughter begs to go there all the time…i go there for some *me* time…the casinos are not a bad thing..if you don’t like them..don’t go there..simple as that..but they add to the fun of the falls…and as much as anybody says the gift shops are tacky…they can’t admit to NOT buying SUMTHING…… 🙂

    just my 2 cents 🙂

  3. AND…by the way….the extra 20 minutes or so down the parkway..to niagara on the lake….well..!!.that is a story all in itself….

    🙂

  4. I’ve never heard that the gazebo was haunted!! It was built in 1982 as a set for the filming of the movie ‘The Dead Zone’ (Stephen King, David Cronenberg, Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen), and was left to the town after. Since it played a prominent roll in the climax of the movie, maybe it has something to do with that.
