$200M venture proposed for N.F., Ont.

From Buffalo Business First:

Niagara Falls, Ont.s’ 59-story Hilton Hotel tower may soon have a neighbor that’s nearly as tall.

In a plan that’s been working its way through the Canadian city’s municipal departments since late last year, prominent hotelier and developer Tony Zappitelli and his Romzap company, has unveiled plans for three high-rise hotels along Stanley Avenue. The tallest of the three towers could be 57-stories, with a 42-story and 32-story hotel also in the mix. Condominiums or apartments may replace some of the hotel rooms, depending on future developments, Zappitelli said.

Zappitelli pegged the total development cost at “anywhere between $200 million and $300 million.” The project will be privately funded.

  1. They need to check their facts… this new development will actually be taller much taller especially if the roof on the planned 57 story tower is as depicted in the model. The new Hilton tower was planned to be 59 floors but was downgraded to 53 for cost reasons.

  2. Oh and since we now have an arms race of sorts to see who can have the biggest, tallest & best hotel in the city I wonder if the dormant plans for the Rainbow Tower will now be put on the front burner! 🙂

You know our ever growing skyline becomes a tourist attraction all by itself!

  3. Ya know, I LOVE the fact that they keep building up & up with Niagara Falls, Ontario. It becomes more & more like a miniature Las Vegas.

The only problems I have is that the majority of the hotels are fairly bland. They’re decent for what they are with the glass structures (ie: Sheridan), but there’s no true uniqueness to them, aside from the Fallsview. I’d really like to see something come to shine, like the Rainbow Tower as mentioned above (http://img89.imageshack.us/i/054820bridgenewaw6.jpg/). I haven’t heard much on that since it was first announced.

…I just wonder if with all these new rooms that would be opening up… is there still a need to fill them up? I wonder what the vacancy rate is for some of the hotels.

  4. Way back in March of this year, first weekend I believe, Karen and I did a Mother/Daughter weekend at the Courtyard Marriott and was told by the clerk that they were sold out for the entire weekend. Karen, however, had made reservations in advance.

  5. The new Convention and Civic Centre will be right across the street. Lots of potential customers there.

  6. I had called about booking a room last weekend at the Sheraton on Falls Avenue with a Waterpark pass, and they were completely sold out as well.
