Niagara Falls Comedy Fest - Members Club

On Wednesday I received an email about the Niagara Falls Comedy Fest. The email was all in plain text, so I have copied it into the post below:

Hello Everyone:

We’ve been hard at work on this year’s Niagara Falls Comedy Fest and further announcements will be made shortly.  But here is the latest updates.  The 2008 Niagara Falls Comedy Fest is being expanded to three days (November 20 22, 2008) at two different venues.

November 20: Komedy for Kidneys Benefit Show We are pleased to host an evening of comedy featuring the talents of home-grown comedians Rodney Pentland and Mark Matthews along with three-time Canadian Comedy Awards winner, Nikki Payne.  The Komedy for Kidneys Benefit Show takes place on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Greg Frewin Theatre. Doors open at 7 PM and the show begins at 8 PM.  Proceeds from the event will benefit GNGH’s plans to construct a Kidney Dialysis Centre in Niagara Falls.

Tickets are just $19 (plus taxes/fees) and are now available from the Greg Frewin Theatre as follows: 905 356-0777 (local), 1-866-779-8778, tickets@gregfrewintheatre.com, online at www.gregfrewintheatre.com <http://www.gregfrewintheatre.com/> or in person (5781 Ellen Ave., Niagara Falls, ON).  A group rate of $15 (for 10+ people) is also available.

The aim is to make you laugh so hard you pee your pants, all while raising money for those who can’t pee their pants that is!  The irony is a comedian’s delight, and in this case, we have comedians who know it only too well.

Mark Matthews recently underwent a successful kidney transplant.  He has performed with Jerry Seinfeld, Gilbert Gottfried, and Jimmy “JJ” Walker, and has appeared on Crystal Comedy Quest, The Fruitopia Comedy Fest, Comedy at Club 54 and the CBC show Comics.

Rodney Pentland currently undergoes kidney dialysis treatments four times a week.  He has appeared on The Comedy Network, Comedy at Club 54, Kenny vs. Spenny, Brave New Waves and The Buzz.  His Robert DeNiro and Bill Cosby impressions are second to none.

Nikki Payne donated a kidney to her father.  Her lisp and no-holds-barred style make Nikki standout as an innovator in the Canadian comedy scene.  She has received three Canadian Comedy Awards and two Gemini nominations.  Her Comedy Inc. special on CTV was one of the networks most viewed.  Nikki has appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, The Buzz, and is a regular on Much Music’s Video on Trial.

November 21 & 22: Niagara Falls Comedy Fest Gala Shows The Gala Shows are once again being held at the Niagara Centre for the Arts (4700 Epworth Circle).  We’ll be announcing the line-up shortly.  Also, tickets for the Gala Shows will be available through Ticketmaster.  Stay tuned for further information on this.

Because you¹ve joined the Niagara Falls Comedy Fest Members Club, you’ll be getting the first chance to buy tickets to the Gala Shows. Also, those of you that buy tickets by October 31 will be invited to an exclusive Meet & Greet with the comics after the show.   You may want to invite your friends to join the Members Club. They can do so by going to www.NiagaraFallsComedyFest.com <http://www.niagarafallscomedyfest.com/> .

If you wish to be removed from the Members Club list, simply respond to this email with “Remove Me” in the subject line.

This year’s Niagara Falls Comedy Fest will be held November 20-22, 2008.

With skyscrapers, size does matter

I know this isn’t directly Niagara Falls related, but I know that many of you also frequent the SkyscraperPage site. The Globe and Mail has a nice article today about the site, the owner, and its visitors:

We’re bit of an odd bunch,” Dylan Leblanc tells me on the phone from Victoria. “A lot of people … say none of their friends cared. But then they find our site on the Internet, and it’s like they found their people. They fit in. They belong with us.”

He pauses for a moment.

“Some guys like cars, some guys like planes and some guys like skyscrapers.”

Indeed, they do. As it has for so many other constituencies, the Internet has provided a home for the world’s wandering tribes of skyscraper fans. And Leblanc would know, since, for the past decade, he has played host to them like few others.

His site, the venerable SkyscraperPage, is something of a monument in its own right.

Settling the score on Niagara Falls

A reader of the Miami Herald asked this question (click the link to find out the answer):

Q. We’re trying to settle a debate: Is Niagara Falls in the United States or Canada?

“Drowsey & Olga”

This is one of the stranger things I’ve seen about Niagara Falls. There are two different web sites that had a posting about a trip to Niagara Falls. The thing is… it is told as if it is a black bra and a doll talking. You have to see it to understand it (it is all safe for work).

Sis made sure the girls were safely buckled in. After that they were so quiet we didn’t give them much thought until we pulled into the Tim Horton’s drive thru … and the girl who handed us our order gave our 2 passengers in the back seat a funny look.
