Old tunes, new year

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

They’re not kids anymore, but they were still hot New Year’s Eve.

Loverboy, a legendary Canadian rock band whose hits include “The Kid is Hot Tonight,” helped thousands celebrate New Year’s Eve in Niagara Falls.

“We got any partiers out there? This one’s for you,” Loverboy lead singer Mike Reno shouted to the crowd in Queen Victoria Park shortly after midnight when his band broke into “Hot Girls in Love.”

Loverboy shared the stage with Honeymoon Suite and Dennis DeYoung, two other acts whose heydays were were in the ’80s, to usher in ’08. It was another homecoming for Honeymoon Suite, originally from the Falls, whose original members reunited in 2007.

“You people are wonderful,” front man Johnnie Dee called out during a set that saw his band perform its hits “Wave Babies” and “New Girl Now.”

“What a way to friggin’ end the year,” Dee said backstage.
