Misty about Niagara Falls

From the Seoul Times:

When I finally saw Niagara Falls, I felt, inevitably, let down. The falls were certainly impressive, but after looking at them in countless photos, calendars and tourist brochures, I was destined to be disappointed. I was soon to change my opinion. The falls really do deliver; given the hype and overdevelopment of the surrounding area, it just takes some effort to fully appreciate them.

Falls Avenue Newsletter Issue #1

On Saturday I received the inaugural issue of the Falls Avenue Newsletter (will this be as valuable as the first Superman comic?). Unfortunately, I don’t remember how I signed up, and I just visited the FallsAve.com site, and I can’t see any form to fill out.

The issue highlights the Fallsview Waterpark and recent changes at Casino Niagara.

If you find how to subscribe, leave a comment and I’ll update the post.

UPDATE: Regular visitor Niagara explained how to sign up… Visit their “Spin to Win” page and fill out the form. Be sure to check that you’d “like to receive news on Niagara Falls discounts and seasonal special eMail”.

A gigantic bore, but not dull

From the Toronto Star:

Tomorrow morning marks the official christening of Big Becky, a gigantic boring machine that will soon begin its two-year mission of drilling a 10.4 kilometre tunnel about 140 metres under the city of Niagara Falls.

The goal: tap more waterpower for generating electricity. It’s not quite a voyage to the centre of the earth, but the sheer size of the project makes this an historic undertaking in the province.
