City streets become parking lots during busy weekend

From the Niagara Falls Review:

The Niagara Parkway and streets in the city’s tourist zones turned into parking lots on the weekend, as out of town visitors flocked to the Honeymoon Capital of the World.

During a call in to a local radio station Monday morning, Mayor Ted Salci addressed concerns the traffic chaos was caused, in part, by discourteous drivers who tried to run through yellow lights and then blocked up intersections.

Salci pointed out police were on point duty at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Centre Street at the top of Clifton Hill, but traffic was congested in several parts of the city.

Locals were able to use other routes to get around, as were emergency services vehicles, but tourists stuck to the direct route towards attractions and hotels, snarling traffic in those sections of town.

Worst holiday traffic in a decade clogs Niagara highways

From the Hamilton Spectator:

Maybe its the lure of the giant Skywheel. Or the 2 Nations party.

Whatever the reason, it seems everyone north and east of Niagara Falls wanted to go there this weekend.

OPP in Niagara report the heaviest weekend traffic volume in 10 years.
