Superman Returns … to the falls

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Superman isn’t just returning to theatres next week, he’s coming back to Niagara Falls. In this case, literally right on the falls.

Starting Saturday, Warner Bros. will beam the Man of Steel’s red and yellow emblem directly onto the Horseshoe Falls to tie in with Wednesday’s opening of Superman Returns.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because Warner Bros. used the same promotion for Superman II 25 years ago. The sequel featured a memorable segment in which Superman (Christopher Reeve) rescues a boy who slips over the railing while viewing the falls. Later, his secret identity is discovered by Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) in a motel suite.

The emblem display will once again be overseen by special effects artist Colin Chilvers, who won a Special Achievement Oscar for Superman and moved to Niagara shortly after Superman II.

Sounds cool! I’ll try to get a picture. If you’d like to read more about Superman II, I posted about it last year.
