From the Niagara Falls Review:
A decision by the Niagara Parks Commission to stop paying property tax is leading to a legal battle with city hall in what council says is a fight for fairness and close to $1 million.
Last year, the parks commission declared itself exempt from municipal taxation and stopped paying the $927,000 annual grant it was to give the city. They put the city on notice they’re not paying it this year either.
Mayor Ted Salci called it a “desperate move” by the parks commission to trim its expenses.
