Tim Hortons Clifton Hill update

The Clifton Hill contruction site where HOCO is building a Tim Hortons and a new retail store seems to be coming along well:

Fallsview Waterpark banners

On the street lights along Falls Avenue are banners touting the new Fallsview Waterpark (or Fallsview Indoor Waterpark as it’s called here) as North America’s Largest Hotel & Waterpark”

Niagara SkyWheel update

I would think that we’ll start seeing the SkyWheel rising up soon. It looks like all of the work has been done in the ground. There is some sort of a building that has been built which I assume will be a control room. It had dozens and dozens of conduits coming out of the building all along the ground to some of the leg foundations I took pictures of before. It looks like the next step is the wheel…

Skyline Inn to Fallsview Waterpark pedestrian walkway

A couple of weeks ago I reported that there had been a stop work order issued on the walkway heading to the new Fallsview Waterpark. The notice of public meeting signs are still up, and here’s how it described the application:

The relocation of a proposed elevated pedestrian walkway between Skyline Inn and the new waterpark and to recognize minor design changes to the waterpark.

I’m not sure what the problem was that required them to stop working, but it has been resolved, as they are actively working on the walkway.

People Mover inches toward reality

From Niagara This Week:

The lengthy process of creating a new People Mover system for the Falls, stalled for some time, has moved forward after proposal architects found solutions to key issues holding it back.

But the solutions are just good enough to get the project to what is known as the request for proposal (RFP) stage, and there is more tweaking that needs to be done, said the project’s director.

People mover progress gets NPC approval

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Plans to create a new People Mover System received another boost Friday when Niagara Parks Commission members voted to move to the next phase in a mass transit system project.

The commission’s approval came off the heels of last Monday’s city council meeting, where its members voted to authorize a second round of bids from three companies that have already expressed interest in building and operating a system to replace the fleet of green buses the NPC runs along the Niagara Parkway.

“Soft” opening of Great Wolf Lodge

Great Wolf Lodge logo

Apparently Great Wolf Lodge will have its public soft opening this Thursday, March 30. A soft opening is when an operation gets to have their staff work in a semi-real environment. Although only guests of the lodge can use the waterpark, everyone is welcome to check out the place like restaurants/ spa/ arcade and shop. Bring your camera and take some pictures. Sounds interesting. I’m going to try to stop by…

B.B. King: The thrill will be gone after farewell tour

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Some artists you’re just happy to see. Some you feel privileged being in the same room with.

If there’s a level above that, B.B. King resides there.

The most imitated, influential blues guitarist in history is on his farewell tour, which made Friday’s first of two shows at the Niagara Fallsview Casino all the more riveting. Here was a bona fide legend making his first and likely last visit to Niagara Falls.

The crowd knew it, and by the end of the night, King could have run for mayor.

Jock Carroll’s ‘Marilyn’ and other photos go to National Archive

From CBC Arts:

The National Library and Archives in Ottawa has obtained the photograph collection of Canadian photojournalist Jock Carroll.

Carroll spent three decades travelling the world for news organizations like Maclean’s, Weekend Magazine, Colliers and Sports Illustrated. He died in 1995 at age 76.

During a long career, he put together a personal archive of more than 21,000 photographs, among them a famous collection of Marilyn Monroe photos…

In 1952, he was assigned to photograph Monroe on the set of Niagara for Weekend Magazine. He had three days to shoot the screen goddess, and the very candid collection was gathered in 1996 in Falling for Marilyn: The Lost Niagara Collection.

Fallsview Waterpark

Apparently the name for the new waterpark is Fallsview Waterpark (not Atlantis):
