I read a nice article in the Cook County News-Herald (Minnesota). The author was amazed at the wineries in the Niagara Region, and also spoke well of Niagara Falls:
We spent Saturday at Niagara Falls, which was a mindblower. The falls themselves are stunning, as expected, but talk about commercialized. We bought a full-day pass, which included (among other things) bus transportation along the river, a boat trip to the base of the falls (I have a blue Maid of the Mist poncho to prove that I was there), a hike along the Class 6 rapids below the falls (awe-inspiring), a cable car ride across the river above a wild whirlpool (closed due to high winds — so sad), and a visit to the Butterfly Gardens, which were phenomenal. My goodness, what a day.
We finished with a ride up an outdoor elevator to the top of the Skylon Tower (like the Seattle Space Needle) for a panoramic view overlooking the falls area and 80 miles beyond in every direction. I took nearly 200 pictures that day.
I thought it was funny that the author called the Butterfly Conservatory the Butterfly Gardens. You’d think a reporter would at least get the name right.
From the WWE Appearances in Canada webpage:

Also, from a recent press release:
In addition to the live event dates in Ontario and Quebec this summer, WWE will be hosting the Legends Weekend at the WWE Store in Niagara Falls, Ontario. On July 22, three of WWE’s Legend Superstars, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “Mean” Gene Okerlund and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan will be signing autographs for fans at 4:00 pm. On Saturday July 23, several of WWE’s top SmackDown! Superstars will also be signing autographs. (Time and talent to be announced.)
As we posted a while ago, Coco’s on Murray Hill is expanding their patio.
As you can see, it is coming along nicely. However, given that we’re already into July, I’m surprised they aren’t working harder and faster on it to get it done sooner.
This is a sign that is now outside Cosmic Golf on Clifton Hill.
Canada’s Largest Indoor Mini-Putt
Air Conditioned
I have no idea if it really is the largest one in Canada or not. It is large, but as I was going through it, I never marvelled at its size.
Jay Cochrane has once again postponed his walk from the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort Hotel Tower to the Skylon Tower. Jay was ready to walk having previously given his okay on all of the equipment and one the platform when it was announced today walk was cancelled due to high winds.
As can be seen in the following images, the flag behind Jay was standing right up, an indication of what he would be up against. Visible in the first image are many of the guide wires that Jay was unhappy about last week when he first postponed this Canadian record attempt.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has a special section in the archives section of their web site Hydroelectricity: The Power of Water with news clips from over the years. There is a 3 minute clip from Aug. 25, 1957 where they talk about Niagara Falls.
The plunging waters, thundering roar and spraying mist of Niagara Falls spell more than just romance. Since 1896 the falls have also provided hydroelectric power to residents on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border. With a new 1957 agreement between Ontario and the state of New York, the falls will become the single biggest power supplier in the world. And, as the CBC’s Bruce Marsh reports, the view of the falls will remain as breathtaking as ever.
You should check it out. The black & white clip shows all the Falls, and explains a bit about how the hydro systems worked back then.
As the Niagara Falls Review reported a few days ago, Jay Cochrane has postponed the big skywalk from the Fallsview Casino to the Skylon Tower a couple of times. As best we can see, he’s been adjusting the support wires quite a bit. At one point a week or so ago, there were wires hanging down over the trees ending up in Queen Victoria Park. Then the wires were gone a few days later. Well, they’re back and they look like they will be staying there.

NIAGARA FALLS - While city residents may be divided on what form they’d like to see the proposed new People Mover take, there is one thing they can agree on: it needs to be accessible for everybody.
The city’s People Mover Office held two public open houses at Acres House recently, where residents were invited to take a look at the status of the project and ask any questions or direct any comments or concerns to the partners involved. The city, the Niagara Parks Commission, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and Falls Management Company (FMC) — which operates the city’s two casinos — are working together on the proposed at-grade, or ground level, public transportation system.
The People Mover is expected to link attractions from the Rainbow Bridge to Marineland.

NIAGARA FALLS - The fourth beluga whale born at Marineland’s Arctic Cove arrived in the usual fashion Sunday - in the wee, small hours of the morning.
By noon, the 12-hour-old calf - a “little” girl, tipping the scales at 150 pounds - was feeding heartily from mom Priscilla, and making contact with others in her pod at the popular aquatic attraction.
“This is our fourth successful birth at Marineland,” marketing manager Ann Marie Rondinelli said Wednesday. “A new birth is always good news.”

It seems like the trendy new thing for night clubs or restaurants is comedy. Ruby Tuesday on Clifton Hill has live comedy on some nights of the week. Rumours Night Club also does every Wednesday night.
