    Springlicious struck again.

Thousands of people filled Queen Street over the weekend for the second annual Springlicious music, food, beer and wine festival, creating a showcase for new business that recently arrived.

“Myself, I didn’t know these places exist,” said Janice Ane, a Niagara Falls woman, who was seeing some of the newer downtown businesses for the first time because the festival brought her downtown.

Ane took in the musical entertainment on Friday and Saturday night. Crowds were bigger on Friday than Saturday, she said, but both nights people were out enjoying the festival.

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Last year’s April Wine has evaporated, but the buzz lingered all year. It’s time now to see if the 2009 vintage of Springlicious has the same intoxicating effect last year’s event did.

A year ago, people fell in love with the downtown again -even if, in some cases, it was just a one-night stand. The first-ever Springlicious music and food festival last year gave people a reason to come downtown…

The question this year is, can lightning strike twice?

Will Springlicous, version 2.0, build on the goodwill last year’s event garnered?

    From the Niagara Falls Review

Last year, over 35,000 people were re-introduced to a revamped Queen Street during the inaugural Springlicious festival.

“It was a big surprise,” said Don Weaver, owner of GPS Pursuits and chairman of Celebrate Old Downtown which is the special events wing of the downtown business association.

“We didn’t realize there were that many local people out there who were still interested in seeing Queen Street.”

Twelve months after the original Springlicious, the downtown core has continued to evolve and organizers are optimistic the festival’s return will once again revitalize the area.

The second annual beer, wine and food festival will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
