    From Niagara This Week:

Travelocity’s Roaming Gnome checked out the sights of Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake on the weekend.

While here, the gnome was spotted at such places as Niagara Parks Journey Behind the Falls and taking in a close up view of the Horseshoe Falls aboard a Hornblower Niagara Cruises catamaran. He was also spotted at the Spanish Aero Car, the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory, and Brock’s Monument at Queenston Heights, the Laura Secord Homestead, Ravine Vineyard The Niagara Skywheel and Fallsview Casino Resort.

I first saw this video mentioned in the Americana twitter feed

Niagara Falls 1937 video~ much of the water now flows behind the scenes creating electricity for much of the region.

It links to a YouTube video with the following description:

A home movie that my grandparents made of their trip to Detroit and Niagara Falls in 1937. It’s 8 mm and video only. Has degraded a bit over the decades, but still fun to watch, I think.

The Niagara Falls portion of the video starts about 40 seconds in

I love the Journey Behind the Falls poncho! It was also neat seeing the old Spanish Aero Car

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

The engineering feat of building a cable car over the Niagara River whirlpool was recognized Thursday when the Whirlpool Aero Car was designated an International Historic Civil Engineering Work… The ride was built between 1914 and 1916 and was originally known as the Spanish Aero Car, paying tribute to the nationality of its designer.
