A joke too far: Our Fallon videos cross the line

I know this is kind of old news, but I wanted to include it anyway…

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

There’s usually a moment at every comedy roast where a joke goes too far and the audience feels a bit uncomfortable.

We’re approaching that point with this whole ‘Bring Jimmy Fallon to Niagara Falls’ thing. We get it, Fallon thinks Niagara Falls, Canada is nifty, so we’re trying to get him here. But do we have to be so mean about it?

There are now three invitational videos floating around YouTube in which Mayor Jim Diodati rolls out the red carpet for Fallon. They’re fun, harmless little things…until they turn ugly. Until we demean and insult our neighbours across the Niagara River for no reason.

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Bringing the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show to Ontario will cost four taxpayer-funded funded tourist agencies a total of $450,000, according to the Niagara-based tourism organization involved in the effort to bring segments of the ABC late-night show to Canada.

“There is funding involved. It’s about a half a million dollars for all of the partners and our contribution was $50,000,” said Robin Garrett, the CEO of the Tourism Partnership of Niagara.

The Niagara tourism agency is funded entirely by the provincial tourism ministry, Garrett said.

With Tourism Toronto leading the effort, the four agencies are putting up the $450,000 to pay for the Kimmel show to shoot segments featuring Kimmel security guard sidekick Guillermo Diaz Rodriguez.

Guillermo, as he’s popularly known, will be reporting to back to Kimmel — who will be at his Los Angeles studio — from the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The show will also be shooting in Niagara Falls.

The Honeymoon Capital wants to roll out the red carpet for Prince William and Kate Middleton after they tie the knot in April.

Niagara Falls city hall plans to send a follow-up invitation to one it sent to the future king in December now that it appears certain the newlyweds will honeymoon in Canada, says Mayor Jim Diodati.

“I can’t imagine they would come here on their honeymoon and not come to… the Honeymoon Capital,” the mayor said during Monday’s council meeting, the same day a British paper reported Canada will be the destination of newlyweds’ first international trip.

Renowned motocross racer and tattoo guru Carey Hart is coming to town. And he’s bringing his wife with him.

That would be pop star Pink.

The couple will be here Aug. 21, to mark the grand opening of the Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co. on Fallsview Boulevard. A full day of events are planned, capped by a red carpet after-party at Margaritaville at 9:30 p.m. Other celebrities are expected to attend.
