Earlier this week I received this email newsletter from Niagara Falls Tourism:
From WGRZ Channel 2 in Buffalo (including video):
Five years ago, 2 On Your Side’s Scott Brown produced an Emmy-award winning special that comparied Niagara Falls, New York with Niagara Falls, Canada.
At that time, we reported how on our side of the Falls, decades of bad decisions, inaction by out of town developers, and a lack of focus on tourism had left Niagara Falls, New York destitute and with few tourist attractions.
We decided to go back to the Falls to see what’s changed, and what has not over these last five years.
In the first of two reports, Scott looks at what changes for the better have happened over these last five years.
From WKBW Channel 7 in Buffalo:
On May 31st, 2013 at approximately 1:43 p.m. Niagara Parks Police Ontario Service dispatch was advised that an elevator had malfunctioned at the Journey Behind the Falls attraction located at Table Rock Complex.
While no one was in the elevator, there were approximately one hundred guests still on the observation platform in the lower Niagara River basin below the Horseshoe Falls. While technicians were addressing the malfunction, two members of the Niagara Parks Police Service High Angle River
Team (HART) rappelled to the observation platform below to provide updates to the waiting patrons.
Yesterday I received the latest email newsletter from the Clifton Hill Resort.

The only marathon that starts in one country (Buffalo, USA) and finishes in another (Niagara Falls Canada took place Sunday. It is otherwise known as the Niagara Falls International Marathon. WIVB Channel 4 in Buffalo has an article about it.
As long as I can remember going to Niagara Falls, it included a trip on the Maid of the Mist. I can remember getting the smelly old Jackets from way back. You put it on, took the tour and put it back for others to use. In 2014 the era of the Maid of the Mist end, well at least in Niagara Falls Canada. James Glynn Owner of the Maid of the Mist never had to bid on running his business until last year and he lost. (In Canada). Governor Cuomo of New York State is trying to keep the Maid of the Mist in New York. Having lost the Canadian side, Glynn is now looking for a place on the American side to store his boats to keep his New York business alive. Glynn’s hopes center around the state-owned former Schoellkopf Power Plant.
You can check out a great article on the Niagara Falls Reporter website.
