‘One of the best years’ for tourism

From the Niagara Falls Review:

A co-ordinated marketing campaign and hosting a live American talk show helped make for another great tourism season in Niagara Falls.

“I just talked to one of the major players the other day, and he said he was up 10 per cent last year, and he’s up 10 per cent this year, so that gives you a very good idea,” said Niagara Falls Tourism chairman Wayne Thomson.

He said the heart of the tourism sector — Fallsview, Victoria Centre and Clifton Hill — was regularly jammed with people during the traditional busy season May 24 to Labour Day.

“People right from Clifton Hill, right down to Table Rock — people walking up Murray Hill — it was just constantly loaded,” said Thomson.

Construction behind Hilton Fallsview?

A scaffolding walkway has been put together on Murray Hill at the back of the Hilton Fallsview. There is no indication yet of what kind of work will be done, but given the look of the walkway, I’d say it will be extensive, or take a long time to finish

80K people celebrate Canada in tourism district

From the Niagara Falls Review:

About 80,000 people packed the heart of the tourism area of Niagara Falls on Canada Day, the largest gathering of people in the city since an estimated 100,000 watched Nik Wallenda’s historic wirewalk over the Horseshoe Falls in 2012.

“It was tremendous,” said Niagara Parks Commission chairwoman Janice Thomson.

“That was the number that our Niagara Parks Police recorded in the immediate area of the falls, and around Murray Hill, Clifton Hill, on the (Niagara) Parkway.”

Thomson said she believes the crowd reflects the “fact that we’ve been enjoying an uptick in tourism.”

“We’ve seen more visitors in general, and now for this to be a very special holiday, coupled with the American 4th of July holiday, we just saw an amazing amount of visitors.”

Update on construction at Starbucks on Murray St

I have previously posted about some renovations going on at the Starbucks on Murray St and the one inside the Skylon Tower. With regards to the one outside, I couldn’t tell if it was still going to be a Starbucks, or if it was changing. Well, it looks like they’ve just been updating it to the latest colours and style.

Repairs high up the Hilton hotel

This afternoon I was walking by the Hilton Niagara Falls Fallsview Hotel & Suites and I heard the sound of a saw. I looked around, and then up… way up. There was someone up on some scaffolding cutting something way up near the top. You can see concrete dust clouds near the scaffolding.

I’m generally not afraid of heights, but that is way up there!
