    The effort to revive Niagara Falls’ Main Street received a $10 million boost from the state Wednesday.

    In an appearance in the Conference Center Niagara Falls, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced the Falls is this year’s recipient of funds from the Downtown Revitalization Initiative in Western New York.

    “The state has never done more for upstate New York than it has during my administration,” Cuomo said. “It’s not even close.”

    Niagara Falls Days Inn to unveil new ‘sky suites’

    A downtown Niagara Falls hotel will unveil the results of a six-month-long makeover of its top floor Thursday.

    The Days Inn at the Falls, 443 Main St., will show off four Diamond Sky Suites and 16 premium guest rooms on the eighth floor, in space that previously was a banquet room. The new rooms and suites increase the Days Inn’s room total to 188, said Maggie Barnett, director of e-commerce and marketing.

    This will come off as negative but is truly not meant to be. I appreciate our city council and the PARP’s efforts to bring life back into the Pine Avenue businesses district. I was lost though at the mention of a new Main Street. Pine Avenue will never replace the area I and many other residents of the city knew and loved.

    …I must reiterate that resurgence in one part of Niagara Falls does not make for a healthy city, in my humble opinion it does the opposite. We don’t need any further separation, we can rebuild together.

    Falls theater rises again

    An 88-year-old domed theater on Main Street that has survived disco, heavy metal and “Girls Gone Wild” has a new life after a two-year, $1.8 million renovation that restored many of its original features.

    The building at 1711 Main St. will reopen this weekend as the Rapids Theatre, after undergoing extensive work to undo decades of decay that set in when it operated as a nightclub and late-night concert venue.
