    From Global News:

A social media campaign is underway to add Niagara Falls and Ontario’s nearby wine country, Niagara-on-the-Lake, to the Wonders of the World.

“The public domain has been debating world wonders for a long time and we have decided to stake our claim once and for all,” said Jody Larose, the executive director at Tourism Partnership of Niagara.

Wallenda still working on wire logistics

    From the London Free Press:

Nik Wallenda is set to walk across the Niagara Gorge on a wire in eight days, but first he has to figure out how he’s going to get the wire from one side of the Niagara River to the other.

The logistics of stringing the 550-metre wire from Goat Island in the U.S. to Table Rock in Canada are proving to be more difficult than Wallenda first thought.

To get the 18-tonne wire across the gorge, a guide line first has to be moved from one side to the other. The plan was originally to use a helicopter for the task.

But Niagara Helicopters has had to bow out because it wasn’t given enough time to get the paperwork it needed, said Anna Pierce, the company’s vice-president.

Niagara Falls salutes Elvis, his actual band

    From the London Free Press:

The summer of Elvis sightings continues, shifting to Niagara Falls, in what would have been the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s” 75th birthday year.

The Niagara Falls Elvis Festival will attract 25 “tribute artists” from next Thursday through Sunday (Aug. 19-22).

With an outdoor venue having the Falls as the dramatic backdrop and indoor events, the festival is put on by Niagara-area native William Maurice, an Elvis tribute artist and his company, Universal Media Group International.

Being presented in “the world’s most spectacular place,” the festival pays tribute to the anniversary of Elvis’ birth, he said. Expected to attract 4,000 to 6,000 people, it occurs 33 years after Elvis’ death.

What’s important is “the Elvis factor” — that is the “fans that travel extensively throughout the world to relive the life and times of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Maurice said.

The London Free Press had a special advertising section on Saturday that explored summer travel options. There was, of course, some information on Niagara Falls. Their web site has a very cool Flash-based reader where you can view the section.

Drench your senses with the breathtaking majesty of Niagara Falls as you see the mighty torrent, hear the thunderous roar and feel the misty spray from this natural world wonder.
