Food festival and night market coming to Falls

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

The first annual Niagara Falls Night Market and International Food Festival is scheduled to take place during Labour Day weekend.

The event was created by the same creators as Toronto’s Ford Waterfront Night Market and will transform a large outdoor space on Sept. 2 and 3 between 2 and 11 p.m.

The event, to be held at L8 Niagara Fairgrounds at 13030 Lundy’s Lane, will feature a large selection of food and art vendors, fashion shows, live music, buskers and a kids zone.

Falls’ new Thunder Gallery gets cracking

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

The rumbling started last spring. This year, the Thunder Gallery wants to storm Niagara Falls.

Located on Robinson Street next to Club Seven, the contemporary gallery has a hefty ‘to do’ list for the upcoming months. In addition to a Niagara Falls ‘art walk’ and Family Day video projection, owner and curator Marinko Jareb hopes to establish a weekly Night Market during the summer featuring art, food trucks and live music.

It’s part of Jareb’s plan to create a local gallery with tourism appeal.

“I would like to embed myself in the cultural fabric of this area,” says Jareb. “This is an international destination, there are a ton of opportunities here.”

Jimmy Buffett chooses Falls site for eatery

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

The first Cheeseburger in Paradise to be sold in Canada will be right here in Niagara Falls, when Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville opens this spring.

And there’s a chance the restaurant’s famous namesake will show up at some point to perform there.

The eatery will be open year-round and feature live music, food and drinks. George Davidson, president of Margaritaville Canada, made the announcement outside the former Wolfgang Puck restaurant, where it will be based.

Just a reminder that someone left a comment way back in August telling us about this new restaurant. Don’t you love getting the scoop early?! 🙂

    Rink ready to rock

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

It won’t take long for the city’s newest ice rink to heat up.

A three-month battle of the bands competition starts next Thursday at Rink at the Brink, the new outdoor facility that opened near Table Rock Wednesday.

Rock the Ice Nights will run every Thursday until a champion is crowned Feb. 25, with several career-aiding prizes at stake.

“We went to all the schools in Niagara asking the kids, ‘What do you want to do? What would you like to see down at the Rink at the Brink?'” says Tina Myers, assistant manager of events with the Winter Festival of Lights. “The consensus was live music, food and prizes. So, that’s what we’re trying to do.”
