Big Top Amazing Mirrors & Laser Maze leaflet

Back in June I posted about the new attraction that is going in where Brick City was located. As you may recall, that building was torn down and it is an empty lot right now. The lot is fenced off and there are signs up showing the name of the attraction and that it is opening soon. Well, here we are at the end of the summer, and nothing has been done yet.

I was surprised to see that they’ve even had leaflets available talking about the new attraction. I would assume it will be open for next year, but only time will tell.

    Frewin’s risky business

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

One more illusion. One more long night to get through. Once magician Greg Frewin deals with his Blades of Fire, the three-week marathon is over.

    But it won’t be easy.

It’s the big finale of his CBC special, and there probably isn’t a worse place to be in Niagara Falls on this January night. The temperature at Table Rock is steadily dropping. Mist from the Horseshoe Falls has covered everything in ice. The wind from the gorge and nearby hotels cuts through the thickest overcoat.

Tomorrow, the crew will head home and begin the long process of editing all this footage into a one-hour TV show, not even airing for 11 months.

For now, everyone just wants to get through this last night without frostbite.

    Greg Frewin’s grand illusions

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

After 90 minutes of delays, Greg Frewin is finally ready to make stuff disappear.

His doves are in place. The lights are finally working. The TV cameras flip on. He takes his place at centre stage, where he’ll film the day’s first illusion in front of a crew that has already had a long day.

“Can we get some smoke?,” he asks one of the backstage staff.

Thirty seconds pass. “Smoke?,” he repeats.

“Not working,” a voice answers behind the curtain.

Frewin has kept it together all morning, but this time he’s furious. He stomps off stage and returns a minute later, explaining why the smoke machine won’t work because someone piled a bunch of material on it.

“I don’t know why people can’t not put stuff on top of it,” he mutters. “A $10,000 machine …”

You should read the rest of the article… it’s very good. I’m looking forward to the other two parts.

Chills & Thrills! Icy illusion being taped near Falls Thursday

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Wanna be on TV? Bundle up and head down to Table Rock Thursday.

Weather pending, a major illusion for an upcoming CBC magic special will be filmed at 7:30 p.m.

Producers are being tightlipped about details, but it involves a local magician performing a huge (and dangerous) feat down by the falls involving fire, a giant icicle, a straitjacket, and a few surprises.

How dangerous? Anyone under 18 is asked not to attend because of the intense nature.

I don’t have any inside information, but this has to be another thing that Greg Frewin is doing. Unfortunately I won’t be able to get down there myself, but I’ll walk down there at lunch and take a picture of the setup.
