It’s not about competition. It’s about complementing each other.

With news this week Nelly Furtado and Hedley will headline the Niagara Parks Commission’s free New Year’s Eve concert at Queen Victoria Park, organizers at the city’s convention centre say it will go hand-in-hand with the Deadmau5 show at the Stanley Ave. facility.

“Different styles of music, different crowds,” said Jeff Dixon, assistant general manager of the Scotiabank Convention Centre. “We all have our musical preferences and tastes. What this does is cement Niagara Falls as the true New Year’s Eve destination in Canada.”

The west coast is coming to Niagara for New Year’s Eve.

Canadian songstress Nelly Furtado and Vancouver rockers Hedley will ring in New Year’s Eve in Niagara Falls, the Niagara Parks Commission announced Monday night.

The lineup for the Dec. 31 free, outdoor concert in Queen Victoria Park also includes Dragonette, an electro-pop trio.

Furtado, who was born in Victoria, B.C., had hits with “I’m Like a Bird,” “Promiscuous,” and “Turn Off the Light.” Hedley, named for a town in B.C., had hits with “On My Own” and “Trip.”

The show begins at 7:30 p.m., with fireworks scheduled for 8:45 p.m. and midnight, a parks commission press release states.
