Visiting FX Ride Theatre with my son

The other night I had a father/son night with my 9-year-old son. He wanted to come down to Niagara Falls, so we went mini-putting at Galaxy Golf, played in the Great Canadian Midway, rode the FX Ride Theatre, then had dinner at Wendy’s. It was fun!

It had been a while since I’d been on the FX Ride Theatre. They have a short film you watch in a separate room before you go into the movie about a family of clowns. I’m sure the child clown is a young Zachary Gordon, the kid from Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I checked on IMDB, but it doesn’t mention anything there. The theatre has has been showing a movie called Fun House Express: Jimmy’s Clown Chaos for quite a while now, however this time it was a little different. The movie had been edited a bit differently and had some new shots. If you haven’t seen it, you can read more about it on the SimEx-Iwerks web site and watch a trailer for the movie on YouTube or below:

Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf in Spring 2010

Like many of the attractions on Clifton Hill, I’ve been to Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf lots of times (perhaps a dozen). I went when it was located right on Clifton Hill (before Boston Pizza and the Great Canadian Midway came along), and have played it in its current location. I’ve always thought the grounds were nice, but for some reason this time I was very impressed. Perhaps it is just the age of the place, and the plants are maturing nicely, but it was gorgeous! We were there on a nice clear evening. It was still warm out (but not too hot in the shade), and there weren’t many people on the course.

I was also very impressed with the dinosaurs. I don’t think there are any new ones, but they look very good. I think I posted or tweeted last year that some work was being done on them. Well, whatever they did, the dinosaurs look fantastic. Of course, I don’t know what real dinosaurs look like, but these ones look pretty real.

If you haven’t been for a while, it may be worth another visit. Also, with the new course being built behind the Niagara SkyWheel, I don’t know if there will be then three courses, or if either Dinosaur Park or Galaxy Golf will be dismantled.

As always, you can see some of the thumbnails below, and you can see all of the full size images in the Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf in Spring 2010 gallery.

Note: There are now 3,038 images in 244 galleries.

I also made a video of some of the course and the beautiful surroundings. I filmed it in HD, so be sure to look for that when you watch in on YouTube. You can also see the video embedded below.

Mini-putt at Dave & Busters or Embassy Suites?

I saw this job advertisement for a mini-putt/laser tag attendance for the Embassy Suites Hotel Niagara Falls-Fallsview. Are they building something at the hotel, or has there been one there for a while? I thought the only mini-putt places around here were Dinosaur Park, Galaxy Golf (both HOCO) and the former Hulk mini-putt (Canadian Niagara Hotels). Is one going to be put in at Dave & Busters?

Updates at Galaxy Golf on Clifton Hill

Galaxy Golf is the large glow-in-the-dark mini-putt on Clifton Hill. It’s been open for a few years now, and during those three years, nothing much new has been done/added. Over the last month or two several small, but nice, changes have been made. The most obvious is the repainting of the 18th hole (what you see in the lobby). The yellow/blue/green seems to pop out a lot more (see the pictures below). There has also been some things repainted on the main part of the course, and some nice light effects put in. There are 4 or 5 new light projectors that provide some water effects as well as general light movement. Again, nothing earth-shattering, but it does make the place feel a little newer/better.

More parking lost on Clifton Hill

The old Niagara Marketplace on Clifton Hill used to have several parking spaces out front. When that building was torn down and the new Tim Hortons/Canada Trading Company/Galaxy Golf building was put up, the sidewalk was changed and the parking was removed. Well, the same thing has happened across the street at the upcomding Dave & Buster’s.
