Stormtroopers, wrestlers, zombies invade Clifton Hill

From the Niagara Falls Review (includes a video and some pictures):

Back when it was still called WWF wrestling and Hulk Hogan ruled the ring with his headband and tear-away shirt, Paul Lemire started buying up the rubber action figures that most boys under the age of 12 would covet and then ultimately forget about when they got older, moved on to girls and realized these guys were acting.

Lemire, in his 20s back then, had no interest in playing with the Wrestling Superstars, however, and didn’t even open them. Instead he stashed them away in storage boxes where they would sit undisturbed until recently, when he broke out the collection and appraised its value.

“The entire collection of the figures I have right now is worth about $10,000,” Lemire said, pointing to a table full of about 20 rubber characters including the late Randy Macho Man Savage, Roddy Piper, King Kong Bundy, Big John Studd, and others.

In total, Lemire now has about 60 of the toys, down from the 70 or 80 he had before he started selling them.

“Individual wrestlers, for example Harley Race, that thing’s worth about $300 to $400,” Lemire said. “The Killer Bees tag team, $300 to $400. A lot of them are worth between at least $125 up to $300 or $400 a piece.”

Lemire, 58, was one of the vendors at the first-ever Niagara Falls Comic-Con 2011 at Dave and Buster’s restaurant and entertainment complex on Clifton Hill on Saturday.
