    He’s feisty, playful, and a bit of flirt.

    You’d never guess by looking at 1-year-old Stryker that the Harbor Seal pup almost lost his life.

    He was hit by a boat in New Jersey earlier this year and needed one of his back flippers amputated.

    Because he’s no longer able to survive on his own in the wild, he was brought to the Aquarium of Niagara.

    Shakespeare once said that when words fail, music speaks. Rosie Lorenti, a Niagara Falls native and musician, couldn’t agree more. Rosie shared with News 4, “Music is a very important part of my life. Brought up on it. My mom played piano, my dad played instruments. It’s always been something I’ve done.”

    It’s always been something she hoped she could incorporate into others’ lives too. She’s doing that now by introducing the Niagara Falls public piano initiative.

    “It fell into disrepair and it sat, and now it’s coming back to life,” said Governor Andrew Cuomo.

    Governor Cuomo toured the inside of the Hotel Niagara that is soon set to see a major transformation. The historic hotel that has been vacant for many years is where Marilyn Monroe stayed back in the 1950’s.

    “It’s coming back to life in a modern version but with all the beauty of that history,” said Cuomo.

    There’s new information about the death of Niagara Falls Daredevil Kirk Jones. A couple living in Niagara Falls may have witnessed his final moments.

    Peggie and Ron Bastian were simply having coffee at home over looking the river, when they saw not one, but two men put an 8-foot inflatable ball into the rapids.

    They say, the men and the ball disappeared out of view for just a few moments behind a tree. They then saw just the ball floating downstream. That’s when Peggie captured a picture of the ball and posted it on Facebook.

    Niagara University students spent Wednesday morning decorating windows of vacant buildings in Niagara Falls.

    “So we’ve been working with about 4 or 5 people all morning just taping them up, trying to better the community make it more attractive,” said Jake Martineau, Niagara University student.

    Several life-size silhouettes or ‘shadow selfies’ can now be seen on vacant storefronts at the corner of Main and Third street.

    “I know overtime that a number of these have been shoe stores, restaurants, closed and shuttered since then. But the idea is hopefully it will spur people to say I’m going to take a chance, I’m going to invest in Niagara Falls,” said Michael Beam, Niagara University Castellani Art Museum Special Projects.

    Hotels nearly booked as Niagara Falls prepares for Wallenda stunt

    It’s expected to be one of the biggest events happening at Niagara Falls this year – Erendira Wallenda will be flying, suspended from a helicopter by her teeth, over the falls.

    “For whatever reason, every time there’s this sense of wonder,” said Andrea Czopp, the Communications Director for Destination Niagara USA. “People do all kinds of crazy things for crazy reasons and I think there’s something about the power of this water that ignites an intrigue.”

    The stunt is taking place at 8:30am Thursday, June 15.

    The Niagara Falls Common Council approved $35,000 for a June 15 stunt over Niagara Falls that will feature the wife of famed Niagara Falls tightrope-walker Nik Wallenda.

    Erendira Wallenda, an acrobat, plans to dangle by her teeth from a helicopter over the falls on June 15, the five-year anniversary of Nik’s stunt.

    The Niagara Falls Trolley will begin service to guests staying in participating Niagara Falls hotels and motels starting today.

    Metro’s Niagara Falls Trolley buses serve Niagara Falls Boulevard, Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls International Airport and downtown Niagara Falls, USA.

    Trolley stop signs along the route indicate where riders can board a Metro trolley. Trolley stops in downtown Niagara Falls are located at the Aquarium of Niagara Falls, Seneca Niagara Casino, and Tony Roma’s Restaurant. Service will also be provided to hotels and shops along Third Street, Rainbow Boulevard, and Buffalo Avenue.

    Looming casino revenue loss could hit Niagara Falls hard

    “If we spend it now and it’s not there and this thing lasts for quite some time it can cause a lot of problems,” said Andrew Touma, Niagara Falls City Councilman.

    Touma is calling for a 90-day moratorium on casino revenue spending following the Seneca Nation’s announcement to discontinue payments to the state.

    “We collect about $16 million a year and of that money around $11 or $12 million per year is used in the general budget. Just to cover expenses in the general budget and then we use other monies for capital projects,” said Touma.
