Brick City in Summer 2008

Brick City on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls

A few weeks ago I used up some old passes I had and took my family to Brick City. This is one of the newer attractions on Clifton Hill. It used to be the Adventure Dome, and then a few years ago it became this LEGO city. A local Niagara Falls man has created buildings, landmarks, trains, and more. If you aren’t really interested in LEGO, then you probably wouldn’t be interested in the attraction. It is just one big room with a huge LEGO display in the center. On the other hand, if you are the least bit interested in LEGO, then you’d love it. I used to play with LEGO as a kid, and so I appreciate the work it took to get all of that done.

I guess I do need to mention one thing. The logo above is an old one. I just noticed that the Brick City web site doesn’t emphasize the LEGO aspect. They are just bricks. I wonder if they aren’t licensed to use the term anymore or what caused the change… I’ll have to find an updated logo for my next posting.

Every time I go there is something new. When it first opened, he hadn’t finished Niagara Falls yet. This most recent time I was there, he had build a replica of the Niagara SkyWheel. Brick City is one of the few attractions that can actually keep adding/changing things.

I guess one of the best way to judge the attraction is from the guest book they have as you leave. People from all over had left comments that were complimentary of the attraction. One of the nicest ones was from a kid in Ohio. He said “The best thing ever. 10x better than video games”. Now that’s an endorsement!

I took a video that is about a minute and a half:

I didn’t take a full gallery of pictures (you can view my 2005 pictures or my 2007 pictures if you want), but here are a few new things:

The Niagara SkyWheel

The creator also becomes an “artist” by using small pieces of lego as his palette. Neat stuff!

Niagara Falls Blog in the “off season”

Things have certainly slowed down now that Labour Day is past. I hope to be able to keep posting 4-6 things a day through September, but at some point it is definitely going to slow down. I think last year I was posting 1-3 a day through the winter. We’ll see what happens this year.

As for upcoming posts, I’ve still got some posts to get caught up on (I’ve had drafts saved for months), and I also have the following to come at some point over the next month or two:

  • May - August stats report
  • Trip to Brick City
  • Trip to Bronto’s Adventure Playland
  • Trip to Dinosaur Park
  • Trip to Fun House
  • Trips to Marineland
  • Trips to various Niagara Parks Commission sites
  • Niagara Falls Trading Cards
  • Posts about a couple of books
  • Updated blog theme
  • Updates to the main part of the site (i hope for this every year, but never actually get to it)

As always, all I ask of you is that you keep visiting the site, and bring your friends :-)

A Weekend of Distractions << rare monsters

Someone with a Wordpress blog posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:

We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring Clifton Hill. There is a lot to do on that short street most of it really fun. S spotted a place called Brick City. We paid a surprising $23 for the three of us to get in even with our $1 off ea. coupon. This was the only thing we did that was not worth it. Avoid this place unless you have a kid who is Lego obsessed. And, ask if the prices are not posted. The only rates posted here were a discounted rate to visit a group of several attractions.
