Maid takes exception to Parks statement

    From the St Catharines Standard:

It appears to be a nasty divorce.

Maid of the Mist isn’t sailing into the Canadian sunset without a parting shot at the Niagara Parks Commission.

“We are disappointed by the failure of the Niagara Parks Commission in its statement to recognize our Maid of the Mist Steamboat Company and its great history,” spokesman Kevin Keenan said in an e-mail Wednesday evening.

The parks commission issued a press release Wednesday morning thanking the Glynn family for operating the service on the Canadian side for the last 41 years.

“This great history cannot be reduced to 41 years of ownership or by being referred to as simply privately held tour boats,” said Keenan.

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

After 167 years, one of Niagara Falls’ most iconic attractions is sailing into the Canadian sunset.

The Maid of the Mist is concluding its tour-boat excursions on this side of the Niagara River for the final time Thursday. The Maid has been around since 1846 and has been owned by the Glynn family since 1971.

Hornblower Niagara Cruises will operate on the Canadian side of the gorge starting next spring.
