Visit to Ripley’s Moving Theatre

Up until a few weeks ago, one of the attractions I had never been to was Ripley’s Moving Theatre. This is at the top of Clifton Hill in what used to be the Houdini museum (before it burned). I have been on the FX Ride Theatre (Cosmic Coaster, FX Thrill Ride, whatever you want to call it) before, and assumed it would be similar. I don’t know if the company providing the movie and hardware are the same (I assume they are), but the rides are totally different.

At FX Ride Theatre, the entire audience is on the same platform. There are several rows of seats and the entire platforms moves together. The platform takes up less than half of the room, and the screen fills the width of the room.

At Ripley’s Moving Theater, there are 4 rows of seats, but each audience member is in their own seat.  They all move at the same time, but you are sitting “alone”. The rows are as wide as the room, as is the screen. Of course Ripley’s Moving Theater also has wind, water/mist and snow effects. Neither theater is 3D.

The setup makes the experiences different. It seemed that FX Ride Theatre was smoother, but Ripley’s Moving Theater gave you more of an “experience”. Now, I have to admit, I’m not much of a rides guy, so I’m not the best person to be doing a comparison. However, I’m sure if you enjoy rides, you’d enjoy either.

The Ripley’s Moving Theater official web site describes the attraction this way:

Experience the thrill of Ripley’s Moving Theater! Every bump, dip and turn will have you soaring with excitement as the only live action theater in Niagara Falls offers you a chance to participate in the ride of a lifetime. Get in the action! Feel the state of the art mist, snow and wind effects combined with digital dynamic surround sound sweep you into our world of entertainment. Catch the exhilaration of our two consecutive adventures playing continuously daily at Ripley’s Moving Theater.

As of the time of this posting, the 2 movies you see/experience are Motion Madness and Monster Trucks.

Dairy Delight (not Dairy Queen)

I noticed this when I was taking a picture of the new IHOP Niagara Falls. The big miniature golf course by the hotel is still there, but the Dairy Queen isn’t a Dairy Queen any more. It’s a Dairy Delight. As you can see, the building looks the same. The Dairy Queen sign on the building has been covered up with a canvas Dairy Delight sign. The sign on top of the mini-golf sign has been covered up.

Top section taken down at Table Rock?

As the expansion of the 38 million dollar complex is coming to its final stages.  One of the final sections left to complete, is the construction forming the upper part of the steeple (as seen here.) However as you can see it has been taken down. This could mean one of two things, that it has been scrapped altogether? Or that it is easier to finish framing from the ground, and then hoist back up once completed. Either way it is a beautiful addition to the parkway.

Visit The Falls, Help Others

WKBW, channel 7 out of Buffalo had a nice segment a week or so ago about the Cave of the Winds. I’ve never been, but apparently you get a pair of sandals to use. When you are done, you can “pay” for them and donate them to needy people.

Pappa and Gramma’s Road Trip: DAY 6 NIAGARA FALLS CANADA/USA

Someone with a Blogger blog posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:

Went to Clifton Hill which is an area of many tourist attractions. Went on the 4D movie ride. It was so much fun. We felt like we were driving monster trucks. When we hit the water, water sprayed on us. Then, we rode snow mobiles and it got very cold and it started snowing on us!

Ferris Wheel Travel: Flying Over Niagara Falls

Jaunted, “the pop culture travel guide”, has a posting about the Niagara SkyWheel (including a link to a YouTube video):

Even with the warmer weather on the way out, Niagara Falls is still a great place to take in some of nature’s beauty in cooler temperatures–especially within heated “pods.”

The Niagara SkyWheel, situated on the Canadian side of the falls within Clifton Hill, rises more than 175 feet into the air as it slowly rotates to give riders a view of the falls.

More Marvel sign removal at Adventure City

As I’ve reported before, Adventure City on Clifton Hill still has blank signs from when all of the Marvel logos and images were taken down. Well, it looks like at least one of them is coming down. There used to be a giant Spider-man beside the Rainforest Cafe volcano. Then they took down the Spider-man, but left up the large blue backboard. As you can see by the picture, they’ve taken down the backboard, and all you can see is the frame. They are either going to put another sign, or take this apart entirely.

Better comparison of Skylon Tower vs Hilton height

The other day I posted a terrible cell phone picture of the Skylon Tower and Hilton. Here are a couple of better pictures:
